Sugar Bowl - LSU 41, Notre Dame 14 (Final, Jan. 3, 2007)

How many times does Notre Dame have to get their asses handed to them in a bowl game before they make them beat somebody during the regular season before they can play in high profile bowl? Worst BCS bowl by a mile.
The same number of cheeseburgers Charlie can eat in a sitting. We will all be dead by that time.

Why was the ND secondary step for step? SEC speed = Urban Legend

what game are you watching? ND cant go step for step with people in nursing homes much less football teams. i have another question that i always find really intriguing. in most man coverage ND always puts wooden on the opposing teams WR even though he is the slowest and worst DB on their team. ive seen him man up on ginn, jarrett, and bowe tonight and well you know the results. maybe its just me but wouldnt that be the last thing you would ever do? i think charlie needs some subway for thought and weight loss.......think fresh

They have not been burned as much as I thought they would have been tonight. I thought LSU wouls have more big pass plays than they have. A couple of 30+ yard TD attempts the ND DB was right there to bother the receiver enough to break up the play. Again, this so called SEC Speed is a myth. They are no faster than anyone else anymore.

SEC rant

So I got bored with the game and checked the ESPN bowl mania board (http://boards.espn.go.com/boards/mb/mb?sport=fanboard&id=fflbowl&tid=366043&tsn=1)
only to find a little thread on the "overrated big 10" had blown up in to three pages. So I just had to smack this little SEC fan down with one of my long winded diatribes.

Basically he was pulling the SEC teams all beat each other agument and some other Ohio State/big 10 fans tried to explain why that was a stupid argument but he wasn't getting it, so I stepped in to help.

I don't include any stats and it's all pretty subjective stuff but I had fun and thought maybe someone here would get a grin out of it. Here goes:

ok, let's explain this real slow for connie.

Your argument: the SEC "cannibalises" each other every year making everyone think they aren't as good and keeping them out of the NC title picture...or keeping the wrong team out, or something.

This is another phantom SEC excuse and a bad one at that. Florida dominated the SEC and went undefeated in the conference multiple times, so did Alabama in their heyday. Those were GOOD sec teams. They ran the field of their conference like good teams in other conferences do. This year florida, auburn, arkansas, tennessee, etc all beat up on each other. This means they are all similar in how good they are, but that does not me they are the best, or any better than a 1-2 loss team in any other conference. It's called parity. Having parity in your conference doesn't mean they are all great. To prove this you see that Arkansas lost, and Tennessee lost. Florida will lose and it should all become clear to you that the SEC isn't this exception to the rule.

Another great SECism is "SEC speed". If you've watched any of the ND/LSU game you've seen that this is rediculous as well. ND's Walker ran for 125 yards in the first half and all of his big runs were around the corner because he beat the DB's and linebackers easily. I've never seen such slow guys moving sideline to sideline. Walker sucks, check his yardage against USC and Michigan...and this is the #2 defense in the country? riiiiight. Now before you say, oh but look at their wide receivers they're fast right...well so were USC's and so were Michigan's and so were OSU's last year against ND. Everyone burns ND deep. Are some of their guys fast, sure, but no faster than any other good team. SEC Speed ain't no faster than Big 10 speed or PAC 10 speed, or even Big East speed (have you seen Pat White run?)

Now why am I picking on you connie? Because the SEC is over rated. They aren't bad, you morons down south just yelled so loud for so long that a bunch of stupid ESPN "analysts" picked up on it and got the whole country buying that you were better than the best and your 1-2 loss teams were NC contenders when other conference teams with losses sucked. Thus your teams being over rated, and getting beat by "inferior" teams in the bowl games.

One last time, the SEC isn't bad, they are just OVER RATED.

The big 10 has been derided as weak this year, except at the top. A win by Wisky and near misses by Iowa and Minny would seem to indicate that they are UNDER rated, or heck I'll even give you rated accurately. But one thing they aren't is OVER rated, as your stupid thread title suggests.

Class dismissed.

Do you see anything, other than a penalty, that might stop such a thing from happening?

I know we keep re-hashing this, but why is everyone in the media so damn impressed with Quinn? This is a pathetic showing--and a pathetic showing in a big game (again).

Yeah, it's funny that people think he's going to be so good in the NFL when everytime he plays teams with NFL caliber players on their defense he does terrible. It's not like the line for whatever crappy team with a high draft pick is going to protect him any better than ND's mediocre line is doing right now and it's not like he'll have that much better receivers or a run game.

He might do alright in the NFL, he is a decent quarterback, but it is certainly far from a lock that he'll be anything even mildly exceptional in the NFL in my opinion.
