Students denied diplomas because they were cheered

High school graduation ceremonies drag on long enough already. I'm sure they were all told at the beginning to hold their applause so the ceremony would go faster and everybody could hear their name called. I'm glad somebody put them through a hassle for thinking their kids were too special for them to follow directions and show some common courtesy.

What is there to cheer about anyway? It's a high school diploma - it takes a greater effort to NOT get one.

The fucking Galesburg administeration should just be glad that they didn't find a "BIG BOY" on the school roof.

Stolen Big Boy Statue Turns Up at School

GAHANNA, Ohio (AP) - Students arriving at Gahanna Lincoln High School on Monday morning were greeted by a 7-foot statue of a rosy-cheeked lad that was pilfered from a Frisch's Big Boy restaurant.
The 200-pound fiberglass figure of the chubby boy in red and white suspenders was reporting missing Saturday morning from its concrete base, only to turn up on the roof of the school in the Columbus suburb, police said.
Officers believe it may have been a prank by seniors, Gahanna police Lt. Jeffrey Spence said. No arrests had been made.
A school maintenance crew removed the statue with a forklift and returned it to the restaurant, Spence said. The statue, valued at $7,000, was not damaged.

We pushed a car up onto the roof of the building at my High School as our Senior prank.

The good part, they were renovating and adding onto the building that summer...

the bad part? They weren't ready to do it, so when it rained the day after the prank, the rain ruined what was the roof at the time and leaked into the classrooms in the 400 hall

No kidding. I sat through my sister's last weekend and had to chuckle when the audience gave a standing ovation at the conclusion of the names. I couldn't help but think, "Hell, any idiot can get a high school diploma........and I've got a roster of 276 people in my hands here to prove it."

My sister wasn't amused when I mentioned that.

That's a GPA worthy post. I'm always amazed at the idiotic conduct of parents and other spectators at graduation ceremonies. Note to graduation spectators...put the cell phones away (eh, that pretty much goes for any event), wear something a little nicer than the clothes you typically throw on to mow the lawn, shut the fuck up, and actually follow directions if someone asks you to hold your applause to the end. The ceremony is awful enough as it is without having to listen to and look at your trashy asses as you embarrass the school and your children.

Did they miss him while he was gone?

"In many ways, Bob's Big Boy never left, sir. He's always offered the same high quality meals at competitive prices. "

the whole idea is idiotic to think that somebody could hold their diplomas from them and i don't agree with it at all.

with that being said if the school had the whole BS line of decorum during graduation and the parents signed the dotted line they probably would have a viable case against it(not that i think they would win it though). i remember when i graduated the couple of white trash families sitting up in the balcony were throwing an absolute bash and party when their kid's name was called out. it was annoying as hell and not needed. i can understand a brief comment or an applause from family members, but not excessive noise and idiocy that just make your family and kid look like morons. respect the ceremony or leave. with all that said, just because these girls' family members were stupid as hell, it doesn't deter from what they did by theirself in school and they should recieve their diploma(which they did).

so becuase you don't know where your diploma is, these kids are stupid?:shake:

The kids are stupid because they think that not having a piece of paper means they didn't graduate. Last I checked, schools ask for transcripts instead of the actual diploma for a reason. The actual diploma is worthless.

This is about 30 minutes away from me so I?ve been following it fairly close. The students and their parents were all forced to sign a sheet of paper before the graduation started because their graduation had become a joke in recent years, you can't hear a single word.

This graduation went actually much more smooth because of this new rule they were enforcing, you could hear your child?s name be called, not just see them walk across and shake hands. So the students who got loud cheers still shook hands with principal but were just not given their diplomas. The problem that the school ran into is most of these students were African American(in a town that has a white majority), so the NAACP got involved very quickly, the other problem is one of the students was an honor student, so that won the press over on "how could they do this to an honor student".

I wish they would have been able to let the ruling stand, but I guess in future years you'd tell some friends of the class the year before to cheer on the people you hate. They need to do something though, because it is disgusting to se the people spraying silly string and playing with a beach ball in the crowd while the Val Victorian and principal are giving their speeches.

Exactly.......I graduated with a class of 400. If every hilljack cheered their kids then we would have been there all fucking weekend. Hopefully people getthe point and next year will keep there mouth shut until the end like they were told. The only thing that would have been better is if when the first person cheered they just shut down the whole ceremony right there and sent them all home.

you have no idea what it is like. its a joke to even know that people with parents like these are in the same school as me. not to sound overly harsh of the students themselves because they may be fine but the parents are horrendous. i didn't have the ceremony being as bad as they had it, but we still had obnoxious interruptions that scorched everybody's nerves.

Why do I envision Tibor cheering for random kids while staying silent for his?

This was done b/c certain parents couldn't even hear their kids names get called in the past.

Graduating HS isn't that big of a deal so maybe these families can shut their freaking mouths and then have a kegger of Natty Light back at the house where they can talk about Jr.'s future at Auto Zone.

 that's priceless in truth value right there.
