Student Tickets (Merged)

Well, to add students to the long list of disgruntled OSU ticket office customers, the Athletics Committee has decided to move all of the student tickets to the endzones. Gone are the days when years of seniority might score you a decent low-yard sideline seat - now, freshmen and grad students alike will be craning their necks from the entire south stands, sections 1A, 2A, 5A/AA, 7A/AA, and a big chunk of C deck between the north endzone and the press box.

That's what we get for being the cheap seats, I guess.

I'm not sure if I think it's a totally bad change; the noise will probably be nothing short of spectacular with all of the students together. I also realize that other schools' students have it much worse. I'm just ticked off that the ticket office was so sneaky about it (the only way we're finding out is from comparing tickets; the ordering and seat request processes were the same as in 2007) and that my seat location, personally, is going to suffer. My friend, an 8th year professional student, is now in 7C, row 36 - we were in 11AA last year.

Maybe the relocation will cut down on scalping, if nothing else.

Any input from other students, or other BPers, for that matter? Am I overreacting?

From a first year grad student who has had undergraduate tickets the last four years (one year in Block O, two years in the NW corner of C Deck, and one year in the South stands) I personally don't really give a shit where my tickets are at as long as I am in the stadium.

you realize that at certain times students have been shut out of tickets?
do kids today realize that ohio state teams were voted against by the university to go to the rose bowl?

i honestly really like the idea of having all the students sit together, but i think the better solution would have been to move Block O back to the north end of the stadium, make it bigger, and then make the other student section on the east side of the stadium for students with seniority. it's a petty weak move to force students who've been going to games and paying ten of thousands of dollars for four or more years to sit in the endzones.

not that a senior or a grad student will get automatically get awesome seats in any case; during grad school i was sitting in A deck, but it was also in the northwest corner of the north endzone. and only about 7 or 8 rows down from where my seats were senior year

Yes, you're overreacting--you have season tickets at a fraction of the cost that every other ticketholder pays. If you don't like it, then don't buy your tickets next year.

i'm pretty sure they started to be available for pickup on the 13th, if you got the three optional games. i'm not sure about the regular season tickets, i used to just pick them up the day school started.

huh?

what do you mean, that students should just be happy that they even get to attend games? because if so, that's ridiculous. among people without a VIP status (VIPs being big donors, faculty, etc.) students should always get first priority for tickets. i think it's entirely within their right to be concerned/interested/upset about their seating, especially if they were moved from AA to C deck like the OP. and man, i shudder at the thought of Ohio stadium without students. i've been to a few non-student games and the atmosphere has nowhere near the kind of energy and excitement that it has during the big ten season.

i understand that Ohio State wants to do something like what penn state and others have done with their student sections, but like i said before, there are ways to do that without sticking all the students into the endzones.

by virtue of them paying nearly 10,000 dollars a year to attend Ohio State and/or working full time for OSU. i think it more than balances out.

check and check, there will be a Block O section in the north endzone this year, and judging from where the padded seats were at (an option not available to students, making it easy to tell where students are sitting at) students will be in the south endzone and the NW corner of C-Deck like previous years, and the new Block O section in the north endzone will be in sections 5A, 3A, 4A, and 6A.

Uh, I think students are paying $10K a year for an education and work full time at OSU to make a living, not for the right to buy football tickets.

right, but acting like getting a discount on tickets is some kind of huge favor to them is kind of ridiculous.

weird, i kind of hope the seating isn't like that, because that almost seems like it would minimize the impact of collective student noise by putting them in the far corner of the south stands.

so you're saying being a student at the college where the game is being played doesn't give them a "vested right" to sit in good seats? how can you possibly justify that?
