with Lamarcus Joyner
It seems like just yesterday when a 5'9" Antoine Winfield would elicit gasps and roars from the Buckeye faithful with his incredible coverage skills and a fearless headhunter's mentality that punished opponents. Well the BPRT has found another player the Buckeye Nation will love. 2010 Miami Southwest cornerback Lamarcus Joyner is a playmaker with a seek and destroy attitude that does not fear any opponent and does his best to make sure they will think about him every time that ball is in the air. As his recruitment heats up with offers from Florida State, Florida, Miami, Ohio State, Boston College, West Virginia, Rutgers, Auburn, North Carolina State, Oregon, Cal, Notre Dame and Virginia, the BPRT kept their heads on the swivel long enough to get some thoughts from Lamarcus.
BPRT: When you think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind?
LJ: Heck of a program full of success and tradition. They are always on TV. Also i like the fact of their recruiting towards certain Miami guys. They know how to sort out talented players.
BPRT: What position would you prefer to play in college and why?
LJ: CB because it makes my life that much easier. I would love to cover 1 on 1 all game. Also every now and then, I like to pull up and make a big hit. Corners are not so easy to pick from a tree and with my talents at the position that would pretty much lock the job. I have one the best jam techniques and no one can run past me...well not at the high school level. I also have make up speed. I broadjump a 10-5 already and i have a 37 inch vertical so a big WR is really no mismatch. I'm explosive. I'm so glad that the Lord has given me this ability. Hopefully I can work hard enough so that I reach my full potential and just be blessed.
BPRT: You have one more year in your high school career...what goals have you set personally and for your team?
LJ: I have set a personal goal for myself which is to prove to the nation that I am number one in the nation no matter the size or height, because basically I feel as though if anyone is considered better than me, its because of size. Goals that I have set for my team are to be the work horse for them and lead them to a state championship.
BPRT: When your career is over, how would you like people to remember Lamarcus Joyner?
LJ: As a Hall of Famer and the best thing football ever had to offer.
BPRT: If you were analyzing yourself on film, what would you list as your strengths and what needs some work?
LJ: I would list myself as a freak but I need to work on my ball skills in certain situations. Although knocking heads off is a great thing, sometimes the bigger play is more important which is most likely an interception.
BPRT: What are some of your favorite things to do away from football?
LJ: Working out and getting the upper hand on other athletes. I do 200 pushups every night and I have some weights I use every night to curl and do shoulders. Also, I like texting friends and females all night long.
