After being fired by USC in 2015, Steve Sarkisian said he didn't see himself reaching the College Football Playoff, but now he and Texas are a win away from the national championship game.

Steve Sarkisian said Sunday there was a moment in time when he thought he would never make it to the College Football Playoff, reflecting on his journey with Texas during the final coaches news conference before the CFP semifinal against Washington at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.Sarkisian pointed specifically to the months following his dismissal from USC in 2015 when asked whether there was a point where he felt making it this far in a season would ever be possible.
"Hell, yeah, I did," Sarkisian said. "I was out of work. Couldn't get an interview, never mind a job, never mind thinking about the College Football Playoff. Sure, it did. I think that's what makes part of this journey with this team this year probably so gratifying.
"So I think part of that puts things into perspective in that you appreciate the opportunities that you get. You appreciate the people that you're around every day. And you try to pour into those people. And when you pour into them, sometimes you get results like this, and you get on teams like this, and you get to be part of special seasons like this."
Just sayin': You do have to give Sarkisian credit having his alcohol addiction under control and turning his life around.

Steve Sarkisian’s hypocritical diatribe on LSU’s NFL roster controversy perfectly sums up college football’s grandstanding problem
Glass houses and such from the Texas’ head coach on the SEC’s biggest controversy.
Steve Sarkisian could not have picked a worse time to climb on his soapbox. The Texas head coach delivered a passionate condemnation of LSU’s effort to bring back players who participated on NFL preseason rosters, and the hypocrisy couldn’t be more evident. LSU’s decision has created a massive controversy and mounting tension across college football, to the point where the SEC is threatening to expel the program. Everyone has chimed in on this matter, and Sarkisian just had to add his voice to the choir.
Sarkisian went on what can only be described as a hypocritical diatribe, stating:
“These players on all of our rosters have been working for nine months for this moment on Saturday, which will then lead into the next five to six months. The fact that somebody is going to take somebody off of an NFL roster and tell somebody who has been doing it for nine months to kick rocks, that doesn’t sit well with me. That morally is wrong.”
A noble sentiment on the surface. The problem is that Sarkisian recently re-added former Texas offensive lineman Cole Huston to the Longhorns’ roster after Huston participated in not one but two NFL rookie minicamps. The only difference between the Texas and LSU situations is that Huston did not sign a contract with either NFL team.

I am not necessarily defending Sark, all of these coaches are hypocritical douche bags imo, BUT.....
College football players are pros now, they get paid to play. Another pro from another league comes in last minute and takes your spot because you weren't good enough to keep it or make some other dude the one who lost his job.
Such is life in the cutthroat adult world, such is life in the cutthroat pro sports world.
You got your NIL money, hope you did something smart with it because life comes at you fast.
It's sad because they are so young but the don't get to have it both ways. You are an adult wage earner or you are a college kid, you don't get to be both anymore.

Because he doesn't actually care about the kids or believe in what he's saying. He cares about his record......and his record gets better if he can prevent LSU from getting good players.
