Steve Sarkisian - (Cutty Sark after Dark, Texas HC)

He won't be getting it back together at USC. They've terminated him.

http://www.usctrojans.com/blog/2015/10/sarkisian-terminated-as-usc-football-coach.html

On Sunday, USC athletic director Pat Haden asked Sarkisian to take a leave after he determined the coach was "not healthy." Sarkisian missed the team's Sunday morning practice and was reportedly "in no condition to work," according to FOX Sports college football insider Bruce Feldman.

I wonder who changed Pat Haden's mind (i.e. to fire Sarkisian) for him on this.

My first guess is always donors/boosters

http://www.latimes.com/sports/usc/la-sp-usc-sarkisian-washington-20151012-story.html

...

More than 800 pages of receipts, hotel folios and expense reports obtained by The Times from Sarkisian's tenure at Washington show alcohol was a constant presence.

In 2011, for example, Sarkisian picked up a bill at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Wash., that included 83 beers and 12 shots of Grey Goose vodka. Twenty Washington coaches and their spouses are listed as attending.

Nothing to see w/this one. 20+ people... that's nothing.
Also been there -- very nice place. Course it helps that government was paying the tab.

During a one-night stay at the JW Marriott at L.A. Live in May 2011 for a speaking engagement, Sarkisian's hotel folio shows room service delivered a $90 bottle of Veuve Clicquot champagne and a chocolate amenity, then six beers.

Pity he didn't claim the escort's "fee"....

At the Arizona Biltmore in Phoenix for a Pac-12 Conference head coach meetings, Sarkisian ran up $106 in minibar charges in one day in May 2012 and spent more than $1,600 over two days at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa's pool bar in 2013.

Now we're getting somewhere...

Two receipts from Washington retreats in Indian Wells in 2012 and 2013 showed Sarkisian expensed $1,023 worth of alcohol at a restaurant. That included 91 shots of tequila, much of it Patron Silver. At least 16 people attended one of the gatherings; the attendance for the other wasn't clear.

Even some routine trips resulted in steep bar tabs, like a one-night recruiting visit by Sarkisian to Long Beach in 2010 that included $125.01 worth of unspecified beverages in one visit to the lobby bar and $104.01 in beverages at the same establishment a few months later. Another stay, this one at the Hollywood Roosevelt hotel in July 2011, resulted in a one-day beverage tab of $170.47.

...

Alcoholism confirmed?
The speaking engagement is still the only nail in the coffin imo (and probably this latest missed practice)
If not for that I'd think he's borderline, but probably just likes alcohol.

Honestly, if Tom Herman wasn't in year one at Houston, I think he'd be the perfect candidate for that job. He grew up in Southern California (Simi Valley) and went to school at Cal Lutheran (Thousand Oaks), plus he has that swagger and charisma that fits in with the SoCal culture and would likely play well with donors. Plus, we know he can recruit, so that wouldn't be a problem. I just don't know if USC is willing to go after a guy with only one year of head coaching experience.

You shut your mouth right now. I want Herman as our next HC. He need another 2 at Houston, 6-7 at a mid level power 5, then 1-2 rebuilding florida before he leaves them in the dust for the open OSU gig and leads us to a 2025 title.

But the real reason I came over here is: did usc avoid paying his buyout with this firing? Not being a jerk, the guy has a problem but would this be just cause to not pay buyout?

Perhaps, but it's likely they'd refuse to pay any buyout now - they just want him gone - then they'll settle out of court after his attorney contacts them.

How does it get to this point? Did USC/Haden not vet this guy before they hired him? How did they not know he was a drunk? Think of what you go through to get a job these days. I think Haden's and whoever was on the search committee, even folks in HRs asses should be on the line here for the hire.

USC hired this executive search firm to assist with the process...

I've expensed a helluva lot more than that on expensed nights out with fewer people.

Well, other than that one minibar tab, that might be just a tad excessive.

BS. From my experience, at most hotels a $106 minibar tab can be reached with three beers and a bag of cashews.
