I remember how huge the original Xbox controller was... first time I picked the damn thing up was to play Halo and my comment was "oh, it comes with its own system"...


I'm pumped about the Old Republic & I don't even like Star Wars.

& for us nerds at heart - the discreet graphics market will always be pushed forward by those of us who still remain for PC gaming. Everything else that goes to the console is just trickled down.


P.S. - before I die I will be going to E3.

Also watch all the time line updates on youtube. They are interesting and basically show you a view of critical events that play out leading up to the start of the game. Just search "star wars the old republic time lines" There are several 13 or 14 so far.

Two books are out as well and are fun reads. The first is Fatal Alliance by Sean Williams and the second is Deceived by Paul S. Kemp. Deceived is a great book and introduces you to a dark side character important to the game. A character he reminded me of was Vader but with an attitude and was sith from the very start.
If any of you played Nights of the Old Republic one, and two, you may want to read the third book that will be released before the game comes out. It's called Revan and you guessed it; it will focus on what happened to Revan after KOTOR.

I also have questions about system requirements for anyone who is a experienced gamer. Bioware has yet to release system requirements for its new game but what is considered enough or recommended? Gaming PC are just so costly.

What do you have? Are you talking about The Old Republic? From the looks of things it will be like WoW. Not very high end graphics at all. A decent computer from the last 7 years with a mid level graphics card should run it just fine. You might not be able to crank up all the settings, but I am sure it will run in DX9 perfectly fine with rather old hardware.

MMO's are never made with high end stuff in mind. No need to go out and buy a new gaming computer.

Heck, even Mass Effect 3 won't be very graphics intensive since it's a console port. Battlefield 3 is an example of a game that will require some people to upgrade since it will be DX10 and DX11 only. That means only GPU's less than 5 years old can play it.

PC gaming is not like it used to be. Sure, there are some games like Metro 2033, Crysis, Shogun 2, etc. that are PC exclusive and very graphical intensive. Yet even then old computers can run them at lower resolutions.

I have an Asus 2nd generation core i7, running a Nvidia Geforce GT 540M graphic processor with 1GB dedication to the graphics. They said they hoped to make it playable on "most" PC's. So, I hope I am good to go.

You will be fine. You can play any game out there today (although some you would have to play on low settings). I have seen the game, there is no way it's a graphics powerhouse. You have nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'll be fine as well, as nothing from the game demos look graphic intensive but I have never PC gamed and really don't know what was running under the surface. Thanks again for the input.

I'm with most of you on the new Nintendo products we saw at E3. I like how they think outside the industry box but not so much with the final products they put out. I also think they lack the game titles that I would want to buy. I'm an adult male gamer with a very narrow interest of game types and they never really had anything that caught my attention. The new system, as the old Wii, seems a little clumsy to me. Just me maybe.

I like the idea of PC gaming but I have to be honest I wish Bioware would just put SWTOR out for the xbox. I am going to invest in the adapter for my controler because using a typing pad sounds crazy to me. I guess its all in what you learn with and get used to. But it sounds as if you been at this for a while, will you be getting The Old Republic Buckeneye? I have played a few RPG's before and enjoyed them but never a MMO before. Not totally sure about relying on others to help me complete a task or mission. They said that you would be able to play the game by yourself but certain tasks and objectives would require a team so I'll give it a try.

I'm not a Star Wars fan... Not much for MMO's either. Once upon a time I had the luxury of being able to immerse myself in an RPG - but not having more time became the problem.


Its a toss up. I like what I see, but that doesn't mean I'm going to get it.

I'm very happy that The Old Republic is only going to be for PC and not Mac. I played WoW for years and wasted a lot of money before I finally got bored with it. This game looks awesome, and I have a very strong desire to play it. I'm glad I won't be able to.

EA quotes '200 hours of gameplay per class' in SWTOR
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Electronic Arts' Frank Gibeau said that players should expect around 200 hours of core gameplay per class, not including side activities like PvP and raiding. He was responding to a question about the game's allegedly high budget, which Gibeau says is worth the investment: "It's vast. It's a gigantic game. And that costs money. But when you get one of these launched they persist for a long period of time."

You have to remember that SWTOR is a true MMO this time around. 200 hours to "beat" an MMO isn't that bad. That is 8 total days of play time, which isn't a whole lot of time for an MMO. You look at something like World of Warcraft and it takes people anywhere from 5-9 days just to hit the level cap.
