Stanford Cardinal (official thread)

If you haven't lived in the Bay area you might not be aware of Stanford's arrogance - winning or losing. Michigan and Notre Dame could take lessons and elevate their game.

The school loves football when they're winning, acts above the game when they're not.

Administration claims to have no control over the band - that its a club and therefore free to take cheap shots at the opponent(s).

I could sit and watch that Cal runner sweep through the band and knock down the trombone player for hours.

Dave didn't specify any state, lots of projecting going on here.

He is also absolutely correct in what he said. We are talking about a school with an acceptance rate that hovers around 5%.

What is the benefit to hold a camp somewhere where very few of the players who attend would pass admissions to the school? Is that an efficient use of resources?

PS Fuck Berkeley

Are football players held to that same high admissions standard?

Even if they are, he sounded like a pompous asshole. Fucking nerds smh

He's "absolutely correct in what he said?" Just as a refresher, he said "there might be one person in the entire state that's eligible." There is a world of difference between a school having a 5% acceptance rate and the notion that one (at most) person in any given state that would be able to get into that school. What Shaw said was pompous and, oddly enough, quite dumb.

He clearly isn't talking about the entire population of the state, but rather the football recruits of whatever state.....probably a hypothetical state where he actually means the south. He's surely exaggerating, but not by much.

http://admission.stanford.edu/student/diversity/

Stanford's undergraduates come from all 50 states and 90 countries, but diversity at Stanford means more than geographic, racial or ethnic differences. The Stanford community embraces a broad range of socioeconomic, religious, cultural and educational backgrounds. We believe that the best education can develop only in a vibrant, diverse community that actively affirms both the differences among its members and their numerous points of connection.
...

Whaaa?!?

He may have wanted to check his own roster before making that statement. I think I counted about 15 on the roster from southeastern states (NC south and west to LA). A couple from NC, a couple from LA, a few from FL, and a couple from GA.

EDIT: D'oh! Forgot about that second tweet at the top of the page. Oh well, I already know I wouldn't get into Stanford, and that just proves it.

OK, if he's "surely exaggerating, then he's not "absolutely correct in what he said." In other words, you agree with me and disagree with the poster who claimed shaw was "absolutely correct."
