I think USC's problem right now is between the ears. The walloping they took at Oregon stole their swagger. They've lost their confidence and it's very questionable if they'll be able to get it back.
Also, they haven't looked particularly impressive in any game this year other than the San Jose State and perhaps against Cal. It may be a case of a young defense learning the ropes or maybe they just simply suck.
