GOOD TRY, GOOD EFFORT! I generally refrain from blasting coaches that helped grant my favorite sports team a national title while serving as the position coach to one of the best players in program history.

However, when you move to a different program and Tweet dumb shit – like Stan Drayton recruiting players to a program that hasn't been a national title contender in a decade by telling them to "commit to the truth, not the hype" – I can't help myself. I mean, the dude's basically recruiting for other teams with that statement.

To be fair, Drayton did earn himself a little troll-proofing when he somehow beat out Ohio State for the services of five-star running back Bijan Robinson, but I'll enjoy the last laugh when his team predictably finishes 8-5 this season while the Buckeyes are in the playoff with a running back that averaged about 100 yards and a touchdown in three meetings against Texas.

Commit to the truth, indeed.

shit this is where is shoulda put it… i put that in the Tejas thread… He’s up to his signing day tricks again

It's hard to find the Temple thread

This board is complicated. ESPN boards are much simpler.

That said, now that I know where he is, may be an icy snowball loaded with D cell batteries pelting in his future.

It's a welcome to fucking Philly you cocksucker tradition.

Stan Drayton press conference video and Q&A full transcript

Question: You mentioned learning from Jim Tressel how he protected his players, what did you mean by that?

Drayton: “Because he got in trouble for that, right? But the one thing about Jim Tressel is he’s never going to let any outside source, whether it be media or anything, whether the kid was right or wrong in his actions, he’s going to do everything in his power to protect his integrity, protect his character, protect his reputation. Because he always thought that, hey, kids will make mistakes, but they still have a future to live. And there are so many times where in this business that we’re in, a kid gets bad press, a kid gets a bad rep, and then their future, the growth gets stunted in that respect. So Jim Tressel did a phenomenal job of making sure that, hey, if a mistake is made, we’re going to learn from our mistakes, but I want you to know I still have your back, I still will support you in all good, bad, whatever it may be that you experience. While you’re here with me, I’ve got your back. And I really respect that about Jim Tressel.”

Question: How rewarding is it to get this job after you interviewed but didn’t get it in 2012?

Drayton: “It’s absolutely rewarding. To sit there and say I didn’t get it the first time, maybe I wasn’t ready, I wasn’t ready for it. And the worst thing in my opinion is to have an opportunity presented to you that you’re not ready for. So I took it as a learning experience. I wasn’t disappointed by it. I was actually encouraged by it. And I’ve always kept my eye on Temple, because they gave me a legit shot during the course of that process, that first process. Mr. (Bill) Bradshaw taught me a lot. He interviewed me. He told me what was right, what was wrong, and I took that and developed myself in that respect. And hey, it took a while, but now I have the opportunity that I know I’m ready for. And it’s because of those experiences that I attribute to that gives me an opportunity to say why I was ready, if that makes sense.”

Question: Have you been pursuing head coaching jobs for the past 10 years?

Drayton: “I have. I’ve been a part of probably four or five interviews. And they all have been great experiences, learning experiences for me. They prepared me for this moment, obviously. So yes I have been.”

Question: Was it both FBS and FCS jobs that you interviewed for?

Drayton: “Whatever, I just wanted to be a head football coach. I just wanted to lead men. FBS, Power 5, I’ve interviewed at them all. I really have.”

Temple fires third-year coach Stan Drayton, who never had a winning season

90

Temple fired coach Stan Drayton on Sunday after losing records in all three of his seasons.

Drayton went 9-25 overall and 4-18 in the American Athletic Conference. He was fired a day after Temple beat FAU 18-15 on a field goal in overtime.

Defensive coordinator Everett Withers (remember him?) will serve as interim coach for the final two games of the season.

“With the changing landscape of college football and the playoff format, the opportunity for Temple football has never been greater,” athletic director Arthur Johnson said in a statement announcing the change. “Our expectation is to compete for American Athletic Conference titles, appear in bowl games consistently, and build a program that our fans, alumni, and students can be proud of in the classroom and on the field.”

The Owls went 3-9 in each of Drayton’s first two seasons and are 3-7 this year. Their wins came against Utah State, Tulsa and FAU, teams that are a combined 8-22.

“I appreciate the opportunity that I was given to lead a great group of young men at Temple University,” Drayton said. “I wish them nothing but the best in football and in life.”
