Spring Practice Tidbits

I agree 100% that the news on Saine is awesome. I would like to add Solomon Thomas because he is gonna dd even more depth at the DE position. I think the battle between Torrence and Amos is great because IMO that means we have three good CB's.

Agreed...I like Amos with his experience and persistence but Torrence sounds like a playmaker. I can remember being very excited when he commited, Amos as well actually. In any event, I wonder if Torrence could get on the field in nickel situations? I know Hines and Moeller played here some but I wonder if Torrence might steal some time with his cover ability. I also think Howard sounds like a viable guy in that spot as well, really excited about his rangy coverage ability.

The first thing that pops into my head about Torrence is the fumble he forced that Hines took to the house to end the MSU game last year.

Ohio State football: Quick practice update
by Doug Lesmerises
Tuesday April 21, 2009

Quick update from practice today:

* Terrelle Pryor threw a couple nice deep balls, hitting DeVier Posey and Taurian Washington in stride for long gains. No ice on the arm today, at least that I saw.

We do look a lot at Pryor's throwing motion and tend to overlook everyone else. Backup quarterback Joe Bauserman threw a 35-yard touchdown pass on a line to Washington in the corner of the endzone that he released with almost a submarine delivery.

* The Buckeyes worked a lot on their unbalanced line, putting both tackles on one side of the line and lining up either a tight end or fullback on the end of the other side.

Ohio State used this formation at times last year but never really ran a surprising play out of it, as far as I can remember. Seems like it could be a good way to sneak a pass to a tight end.

* We'll have the linebackers in for interviews in a bit, but it sure looked like Brian Rolle was playing a decent amount of middle linebacker today. He's a guy to watch for the fall.

* In the positions that are rotating at first team, Andy Miller was first team left tackle ahead of Mike Adams and Devon Torrence was at corner ahead of Andre Amos.

Who stood out today?
The Buckeyes went through their second-to-last practice today before Saturday's spring game. It was held indoors, in shells.

Observations:

-- I continue to like what I see from tailback Brandon Saine. He's running and cutting with vision. He also had a nice snag today on a nearly overthrown pass into the flat from Terrelle Pryor. Saine stabbed it with his left hand and brought it in.

-- I also thought Taurian Washington had a fine day, making several noticeable catches downfield. Some were against second- and third-teamers, I might caution. But he was working with the first team when OSU was in three wides.

Dane Sanzenbacher is still out, so it appears right now the depth chart would be Sanzenbacher-Ray Small-DeVier Posey as the clear tope three, followed by Washington as No. 4 and Lamaar Thomas at No. 5.

-- The usual crew was sitting out injured today, with one noticeable addition: Backup safety Nate Oliver, who had his left shoulder wrapped in ice.

hopefully Saine keeps it up, he was looking good his freshman season then he got hurt and kind of fell off, if he gets back to playing how he is capable of that will be a big boost for this offense
