It seems that anyone new to the program is buried in the depth chart at this time.

This is as it should be. You can't give anyone a job; they have to earn it. I would have been disappointed if C Wells came in and before the first practice, was listed as the #2 back. If he earns that spot by the opener, so be it, but for now, he belongs at #2. Same goes for Grant and others.....at least IMO.

I know it's only the spring depth chart and things WILL be changing, but I wasn't prepared for all the changes.

Offense:
-Where's Roy Hall??
-Rehring moving to G, Datish moving to C. I love Rehring, but having walk-ons in the 2 deep at BOTH tackles scares the hell outta me if it stays like this during the regular season. Plus, I'd really like to see one of our redshirt sophs finally step up (Person, Skinner, Mitchum, I'm talking to you three!). Kinda surprised to see Cordle not 1st team, but I'm sure he'll make a loud argument here this spring..
Look at the starting o-line and you see four guys with playing time at tackle. If something were to happen to Boone or Barton, Datish or Rehring would move out and one of the younger guys you called out would move up at guard. Cordle is not 1st team because he has a fifth year senior with a lot of experience in front of him. I don't recall ever feeling better about the offensive line. Depth charts don't dictate who plays and when. Look at the two-deep for the line the past few years and you see the same type of thing. Walk-ons at multiple spots on the line that never/rarely see playing time. Bollman/Peterson have a very versatile line. If one guy goes down, they're going to put in the 6th best lineman and shift some guys around to get the best possible combination instead of plugging in a guy for the sake of preserving the depth chart.

At TE, I am very, very surprised. I thought Frost did an outstanding job at the end of last year at that position, and I thought the position would be his this year.

Nicol was the #2 TE in the country coming out of HS. He got significant PT as a frosh and was in line for even more until getting hurt last year. I'm not surprised at all that he's sitting at #1 on the depth chart.

This is pretty standard for a JT depth chart. These kids haven't played a game or even had an official practice since the Fiesta Bowl. I wouldn't think that two many position decisions are being made based on morning workouts. I

On the spring charts new players and players returning from injury or from the dog house start at the bottom. I have also seen JT use the charts to motivate players. This looks to me pretty much like the depth chart at the end of last season with players moved to fill obvious holes (the only 'new' info on the chart) and the new kids penciled in underneath.

I think our best bet for LBs would be Laurinitis, Grant, and Freeman (unless MDA can come back to play the Mike). However, I noticed that Laurinitis and Grant are both listed at the Sam, and I was wondering if you guys think that either of them are big enough to play the Mike. Looking at their heights and weights, Laurinitis, Grant, and Freeman might be a pretty small LB corps.

I don't think Mike D'Andrea can be counted on, he's given his all to rehab is knee but if its still swelling up during conditioning I doubt if he can take the pounding of games and practice. It's a shame, but its a part of football. The other LB's have talent they need to step-up and preform.

I agree that we aren't going to be seeing much of Mike D'Andrea. He just can't seem to shake the injury bug. Have to feel just terrible for the kid.

As for the twin towers on the left side, it won't make much difference in the passing game, imo. I'm going strictly from memory and have no numbers to back me up, but it seems that Troy is pretty much going to the middle of the field or to the right on intermediate routes when he throws. His passing tendencies don't fall to the left side very much so his vision being impeded won't be much of an issue, not that it would be anyway.

I have to agree with you here. I really liked Nicol as a true freshman and if he comes back healthy, I think he can be a big contributor. I think you will see plenty of Marcel Frost as well though.
