Theres a couple things that shocked me when I looked at the chart...

First Biggest Surprise is in the secondary... I don't think Antonio Smith will hold on to the CB Job (I hope he proves me wrong though) because lets be honest the coaches LOVE the big corners and lookwhos behind him, Donald Washington who's listed at 6'1" 185. The other surprise is Nick Patterson at Saftey ahead of Mitchell for sure last year Salley really liked what he saw from Patterson. Either way though Nick or Brandon will alternate as Nickleback whoever gets beat out.

My Second biggest Surprise is at linebacker... I'm honestly very surprised that D'Andrea is not starting in the middle. I wonder if this is due to Kerr atleast being able to practice and give the team looks for the past two years. Where as D'andrea has been hurt and hasn't been able to contribute as much.

Another mild surprise is Nicol over Frost... What gives? I thought Frost did a pretty good job when he played, and I believe he's a better reciever. For sure I do believe Nicol is a better blocker so I guess I'm not surprised as much as the others I've listed.

Either way I think these depth charts are very rough and give a lot of credit to the seniors and people that have been there before. I think come Fall ball we'll see some changes most likely with the RCB and maybe some linebacker positions.

We'll see if this depth chart holds up, some of the positions look a little premature.

I expected mitchell at FS, but there were a number who were in patterson's camp (Grad IIRC).
some much for him moving to DE. :roll1:
carp was listed at DE last year? If he gets a shot there, it will be spot duty.
Jamario O'Neal moving from CB(?)
JamO has been projected as a safety for a while. Scout however ranks some safeties as CBs (ie Whitner). ... edit: JamO barely played any nickelback, mostly garbage time.
But what really surprises me is that Antonio Smith wasn't even on the 2 deep last spring. And Welch was listed as #2 CB. ... It seems like Welch may still be in the "doghouse" with Tressel.
if smith holds this spot (due to being as good as you believe), then there probably is no doghouse issue with Welch.

No offense to the guys over at the O-Zone, but I think they may be taking some liberties on the lower end of the roster. Russell isn't on the official site roster, nor in the extensive preview up there. Maybe their preview later tonight will clear stuff up.

If there's anything disappointing about the first signs of the 2006 football season, it's that Mitchum and Person are still buried on the depth chart. I know it (usually) takes OL guys longer to develop, but those two were supposed to be studs, especially Mitchum (Army AA).

Interesting that Donald Washington is listed as a corner when we recruited him as a safety.

Both Coach Tressel and Coach Tucker described him as having the potential for either safety or corner on signing day, and went on to compare Washington to a young Youboty.

I was really excited about this guy when we signed him--like Malcolm Jenkins, he was dominating his state his senior season, and seemed like a very serious competitor. The difference was that Jenkins was more polished. Washington was a little more raw, but may have been the best athlete in that signing class, and that's saying a lot.

Wouldn't be suprised to see him lock down the starting spot opposite Jenkins by season's end.
