I think this is the salient point. Forde wasn't equating the acts of the perpetrators, but the reactions of the fans to significant punishment of the football program. I still think it's a bull[Mark May] point for this very reason, but I don't think he was saying tattoos = rape = pedos

Keeping this out of the Baylor thread, because the part I'm displaying doesn't have much to do with it.
I can't remember if Forde has a hard on for the Buckeyes or something of the sort, but how does he (and others of his mindset) not see the dissimilar considerations from a high level viewpoint? Pedophilia, Rape and Tattoos. One of these things is not like the other. Coupled with the reaction of the Administration (regardless of the mindless trolls in all fan bases) that took care of business in short order. How does this [Mark May] get raised as even being remotely aligned? SMH
I think his point is that certain fans still seem to think that Tressel was fired/disciplined because of "free tattoos" That is not why - he was fired/disciplined for lying to the NCAA, in order to play otherwise ineligible players. The alignment is not one of the degree of the underlying offense, but in the act of covering up the offense, and the fanbase being ok with it. Of course, that doesn't mean Forde isn't full of it. He is. Most Ohio State fans do think Tressel deserved to be fired for lying to the NCAA.I think this is the salient point. Very true. But many fans MIGHT not feel the same way had we replaced JT with some tool like James Franklin. He's probably right in noting that it's far easier to let go when the follow up is a rock star. Had we followed up with mediocrity, there's a solid chance that folks would later come out of the woodwork to say that JT never should have been removed in the first place. ...that's just how fans are...I think his point is that certain fans still seem to think that Tressel was fired/disciplined because of "free tattoos" That is not why - he was fired/disciplined for lying to the NCAA, in order to play otherwise ineligible players. That's possible...though I think many more would be like "This is Ohio State, why did we hire this mediocre douchebag? Let's get person X from Y State". A lot of people were happy to see Cooper go but we're not happy with the Tressel hire at the time, because they had no idea who the hell he was.Very true. I don't think that was going to be the case with us, as we did not have the stench of decades worth of covered-up child rape lingering around our program.Very true. i have to disagree with you on this one to be honest. the best predictor for future behavior is often found in ones past. while its certainly true i wasn't around the day woody was fired. my suspicion is once people became aware of the reason for the dismissal, it was seen as an acceptable response based on action. same holds true for jt.
who the next coach is doesn't seem to hold weight in my eyes either to be honest. its not like pedo state fans just yesterday started their crusade...
As much as we like any particular coach, they are only caretakers of the program. The program is bigger than any coach. And the University is bigger than the program. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be the best at everything we do, including athletics, as long as that doesn't jeopardize the priorities of the University...

And people were over the Tressel firing during the shitty 2011 season. Urban wasn't on the radar yet. Yeah, they were probably wishing it hadn't happened. But it's not like Paterno or Briles at all in that sense.i have to disagree with you on this one to be honest. the best predictor for future behavior is often found in ones past. while its certainly true i wasn't around the day woody was fired. my suspicion is once people became aware of the reason for the dismissal, it was seen as an acceptable response based on action. same holds true for jt.

Thayer will be greatly missed at Sports Illustrated, but his memory will live on in the form of the most widely discredited five-part investigative collegiate athletics piece in Sports Illustrated history.
