Split Thread: Will the Big East lose it's automatic BCS bid?

Tranghese doesn't have a choice, unless he wants to re-write the BCS guidelines and I don't think the other conferences will agree to a change like that. As soon as the Big Least's average BCS final ranking drops outta the top 12, they're done.

Isn't that the average of the past 3 years? If so that means the Big East will probably get at least 1 more year before they lose the BCS game. Pitt's finish outside of the top 25 this year might speed that up a little.

They are counting Louisville as one of their own (and Miami when they were in the conference)...

The big least should be out... it prob. will in a couple of years. The MAC and C-USA are on the same level as the Big Least...

The Big East will survive. It is four years. If the 4-year total adds up to more than 48, they come under review (translation: they have to cut a deal to stay $$$$$). Next year they have to stay better than 29, and I don't even know what they do with 25+ teams.

2001 1 (Miami)
2002 1 (Miami)
2003 9 (Miami)
2004 10 (Louisville)
2005
2006
2007

Beyond 2005, Tranghese is smart. That conference is so crappy that somebody will probably be able to do 10 or 11, even if it's a different team every year. If they falter, they'll just take a smaller payout in exchange for staying.
