Split Thread: Non recruited athletes

Folanator, I split this thread from the Anderson Russell thread. It's a very interesting question and hopefully you get a good answer from someone. I just wanted to keep the Russell thread about Russell.

I don't think Santonio had offers from any of the Florida schools but I could be wrong. Rivals lists offers from Ohio State, VA Tech, NC State and Pitt. Another example is Darius Walker, who didn't have an offer from Georgia Tech or Georgia but seems to be doing well in South Bend.

The 2002 year was the first year I heavily followed recruiting and I remember Santonio verballed to OSU pretty close to signing day. This was a little before I started going to Bucknuts so my main source of info was ESPN/CNNSI/Columbus Dispatch. The main article I read on Santonio talked about how he was the 17th rated WR in Florida that year. I was bitching "What the hell is the coaching staff wasting a scholarship on someone like this for. You might as well bank the schollie for another year rather than waste it on a bench warmer." At this point, I think you could at least make the argument that Holmes is the top recruit from that year.

No problem BN. It is interesting.
There would be an interesting ratio here somewhere. The # of D1 top 20 programs recruiting an athlete divided into the number of plays played in their OSU career?
