Sparty at tOSU, Sat. 11/11, 7:30pm, EST, NBC

So much has changed since this post

I was catching up with this thread and was going to reply the same thing.

What a season it has been. Tucker whipped out little Mel and serviced himself on a phone call with a sexual assault advocate working with his team. Hitler has been posted on the stadium video board. And MSU somehow isn't even close to being the team with the most scandal in their own division or own state.

Irrelevant Numbers for the Sparty Game

The Buckeyes look more like a M*A*S*H unit right now than a football team. Do their stats, averaged over the course of the year mean anything?

If we still have 3 starters from the defensive backfield out on Saturday, will Sparty still be playing the best pass efficiency defense in America?
Was Rutgers, yesterday?

Clearly, getting healthy is the only story line here, so I'll make this short(ish)

The most remarkable thing about the stats is how similar the strength of schedule is between these two teams.

Sparty has played slightly better scoring defenses and rushing defenses.
The Buckeyes have played slightly better scoring offenses.

The 5 other major stat categories show Sparty's opponents and OSU's opponents to be within a couple points of each other.

So with strength of schedule so close, a comparison of rankings in the stats, raw, gives a pretty fair comparison (to the extent that it matters, given all the injuries).

As you already know, the Buckeye are better in every single category, but it's the matchups that are really eye opening.

On offense the Buckeyes have a huge advantage, sure. But the size of the advantage in the passing game is the biggest the Buckeyes have seen in a month.

After facing 3 good pass defenses in a row (after facing Purdue in a monsoon in West Lafayette) two of them on the road... and having done it with a banged up passing game... the Buckeyes are playing like a passing unit whose confidence is shaken. There national ranking is down to 21st; but facing the 82nd ranked Spartans is just what the doctor ordered.

So while the passing game gets right, what about the Walking (and non-walking) Dead, also known as the Silver Bullets?

If they play anywhere near their ranking, there is a very good chance of a shutout.

The Spartans scoring offense is ranked 122nd out of 133 FBS teams
They're facing the #2 Buckeyes
Good Luck

Their best matchup is against the rushing defense, which is ranked 25th
But Sparty is only ranked 116th at running the ball (ypc)

But that would be better than the 107th ranked passing team trying to pass on the top-ranked Buckeye pass defense, even if they are banged up.

Look for Henderson to keep rolling, Harrison and company to get back on track, and the Silver Bullets to have their best chance of a shutout this year.

49-0 Buckeyes

BACK IN GRAY? Ohio State football has left us with the ultimate tease. At 1:29 p.m. on Monday, the team's social media team tweeted out this photo, authorized with the signature of head coach Ryan Day:

The numbers in the middle of the photo are the date, Nov. 11, 2023 – the same day Ohio State will battle Michigan State at 7:30 p.m. in Ohio Stadium. The date and color scheme of the photo has led many to believe Ohio State will wear alternate gray uniforms for the primetime contest on NBC.

God, those gray and black prison uniforms had to be ugliest shit in college football.

Hate to see it.
The whole state. Fuck the whole state.

By the end of this, they may not even be #2 in scandals.

Looking for consistency on the O. Can't keep having those long stretches in-between scores. Scott catches an early TD, then the O shows up again with 5 min. left in the 3rd. Not the first time that's happened this year. It's going to bite them soon if not solved.

Seems the opposing D gameplan is to allow a short zone in the passing game while shutting down intermediate and deep. So take the short stuff and more swing passes to Henderson to mix in with the run.
