Spanking makes kids retards wtf?

So when a child gets in a bind, he or she might do the right thing to keep from a spanking rather than figuring out the best decision independently, added Gershoff, who was not involved in Straus's current study.
I see what they're trying to argue, but I don't think their utopian hopes are very realistic. Jimmy isn't going to stop beating up on his little brother because it's the right thing to do.

By this train of thought, you shouldn't use timeout, grounding or consequences (lost things/events) either, because then the kid would be avoiding that bad situation rather than doing the right thing.

I made a few visits to the hallway with Mrs. (insert teacher here) and her wooden paddle. The damn things had holes drilled in 'em to cut down on wind resistance, and pretty much every teacher had one.

They meant as a child, Sushi. What you and Manfred do behind closed doors is your business.

My mom even spanked me once when I was home from college. I made a smartass remark and she tore after me. I totally deserved it. She once broke a wooden spoon over my brother's ass. Not that I advocate this at all. Just a different style of parenting that was more accepted in the '80s. Not so much now.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.

If you take more than one IQ test in your life your range of variance in will be higher than the deviance shown by the "spanked" group.

Just typical sensationalistic journalism.

(...and a researcher who pretty clearly has an agenda that he's trying to support. Can't wait to see the peers have fun with this one when it's published)
