I'll never forget that Sanchez press conference. Happiest day of the kid's life and Pete sat there pouting like a 4 year old. It's all about him.
I am glad that JT will encourage guys to go if they are rated high in pre-draft projections. This happened with Gonzo, Beanie, and even Jenkins (even though he chose to stay). I guess some coaches care a bit more for their players future and not totally about wins and losses.

The Telfort situation: What was Petey going to do? If he revoked his schollie because of a heart condition, his reputation goes totally in the toilet. This was still a decision that was partially, not entirely, based on his ego and his perceived reputation he holds for himself. Don't let yourself be fooled to think it was something he did totally out of the "kindness of his heart". After the backlash in the media and around the country on how he handled the Sanchez situation, he had to do the right thing.

Sadly, there are more coaches like that in college football (**cough** Nutt **cough**) today.

I have a feeling NO MATTER WHAT HE DID, to some posters on here he always has a motive. News flash, all coaches have motives, not just CPC.

Carroll cares about winning football games. Period.

I guess he is the only coach in any sport that cares about winning right?
Winning equals success , doesnt it?

Because he let Frankie Telfort forego his football commitment due to a potentially life-threatening heart condition? Is that what you're falling back on?
In the nasty realistic world that is college football,or college sports yes. There are coaches out there that wouldnt honor his schollie.

Is the scholarship even counting against the program for four years, given that he never actually suited up for USC, or are they pulling it from somewhere else? I'm honestly not sure how that works. Either way, you're talking about a baseline of compassion here. And let's not pretend that, even if the scholarship was being taken from the football program, this is a decision that is motivated only by a desire to do the right thing. Can you imagine the national criticism Carroll and USC would have been subjected to had they said, "Sorry bout your luck, Frankie," especially given all the other scrutiny they're under right now?

Unless something has changed it doesn't count against any scholarship limits when its a medical deal like this. I would assume they made the rule that way to avoid the very situation where a coach has to make a decision about honoring the scholarship or not.

Dont know about the first question, the second one, well in your eyes CPC is a piece of **** anyway, no matter what he does.
As for national criticism who cares? Pretty much seems like no one likes SC or CPC anyway, so why would I care what others think?
Do you care what alot of people in CFB or the nation think about OSU especially the last few years? I hope not.
I sure am glad you know CPC and what goes through his head.:(

So let me get this straight. You think the fact that Carroll "let" Telfour keep a scholarship that doesn't count against the program is somehow a sign that he cares about his players as much or more than he cares about winning? How does that demonstrate anything?

As far as national criticism is concerned, obviously a certain amount of it is inevitable for high-profile programs like USC and Ohio State. That said, I think you're being naive if you think that the head coaches at high profile schools aren't concerned about their reputation and how others--including perspective recruits and their families--perceive them, at least to some extent. Bobby Petrino may still land enough kids to remain competitive, but you better believe that there are some players and their families that won't consider committing to play for him when they have other solid offers on the table.

I never said I thought Carroll was a piece of [censored]. My understanding, in fact, is that Carroll does a lot of great work in that local community, and that, by and large, his players really like him. What I am saying, though, is that it is pretty clear to me he prioritizes winning above all else, including what is in the legitimate best interest of his Juniors and red-shirt sophomores. If you think he honestly believed Mays and Sanchez weren't ready for the NFL after last season and that they would have been selling themselves short professionally and financially by leaving a year early, then I don't know what to tell you because I think your fandom is getting in the way of reality. You can perceive someone's intent with reasonable certainty without climbing into their skull.

It's understandable that the SC fans give our team no respect. Their team killed us last year in the Coliseum! But we know our team was in disarray last year after Beanie went down. And played pretty mediocre for much of the season. That was not a very good OSU team. The record speaks for itself.
But what about this years team? We have an Improved TP. Better lines on both sides of the ball. (we believe) Less experienced(but talented) LBers.
A decent secondary but no Jenkins. Solid special teams. And we're at home under the lights. And SC won't have an extra week to prepare.
Even the SC fans admit that running QBs give there vaunted defense fits. But will Tress let TP run with any regularity to loosen up the SC defense?
Will we be good enough this early to hang with SC?
