Prediction: This is gonna boil down to whether the players should have been paying hotel vs apartment rates. The rate they paid is very comparable to apartment rates in that area. (My daughter graduated from USC this year; I've paid those rates.) The hotel and USC will probably claim the hotel had excess capacity (which might even be true?) and converted some rooms to longer term apartments; if the players signed year long leases and/or a few non-athletes got similar rates=end of story.
