South Carolina Gets NCAA Notice of Allegations

The Cocks experience shrinkage.

The NCAA claims that 12 student-athletes received an estimated $47,000 in impermissible benefits from a local hotel through reduced rent and that nine players received special arrangements to pay at a later date. It is also alleged that two people deemed representatives of the school made impermissible contact with recruits and provided them impermissible benefits. The violations were said to have occurred between spring 2009 and February 2011.

However, no tattoos were exchanged for jewelry. :paranoid:

This involves the men's football, men's basketball and men and women's track programs.

It includes failure to monitor allegations. The Cocks are deemed repeat offenders as a result of 2005 violations and penalties.

All I can say is......still waiting :sneaky:

There were reportedly 10 football players that stayed at a hotel called the Whitney, from May, 2009 until October, 2010 - at a rate of about $100/week. A couple of players had a value of between 15 and 20 grand in extra benefits.

There were also 2 women's track and field athletes that were said to have received $740 each in extra benefits, so this is over 90% football-related, in terms of the dollar values.

There's also the involvement of two boosters, Kevin Lahn and Steve Gordon, providing impermissible benefits (totalling about $8,000) to recruits through their Student-Athlete Mentoring Foundation (S.A.M.)

At first glance, having that many guys staying at the same place at a rate well below its value sure looks like a failure to monitor to me.

But this will get miniscule attention, when compared to the tOSU stuff. Unless a FOIA request discovers that Spurrier got a couple e-mails about it prior to the start of the 2010 season.

Eh, suspend them for a day.

FWIW - the same SAM group that was the cause of Sharrif's problem is all up in this. It seems to be more than just a little connected to boosters.

I expect that Grad knows a bunch about this whole deal, who is who and what not.

I dunno....looks to me like it could be LOIC. That does not seem to be a "little" thing at first blush. I cannot imagine them not running this by compliance. So if it was blessed, that is not just FTM.
