South Bracket Discussion

Old pals become foes on the court 'DDN' headline

Some first-round and possible second-round matchups could include familiar faces.

Friends become enemies real quick in college basketball ? at least on the court.
The more successful a team is, the more likely assistants and players will move up in the coaching ranks. That leads to interesting matchups and split loyalties, especially in the NCAA tournament.
The Big Ten got six teams in the tourney, half feature first- or possibly second-round coaching matchups involving familiar faces.
Ohio State's Thad Matta left Butler after one year for Xavier. After three successful years, Matta left Xavier for Ohio State.

Cont'd...

Guard play determines what happens in this region. The team that wins this region and the others that advance will have outstanding guard play.

While this could very well be true, with all the great guards, IMO it is going to come down to the inside guys to really determine the games due to good guards cancelling each other out...

With that said we have Oden, Xavier has Doleman and Duncan, BYU has some good big men, Tennessee has some young big guys, Louisville has about 4 guys they can throw out there with Palacios, Padgett, Character, Stanford has the Lopez twins, A&M has Jones and Kavalaskis, Creighton has Tolliver, Nevada has Fazekas, and Memphis has Dorsey...

Not just being a homer but I really think Oden's rapid emergence late in the season trumps all of the other individual players you can run out there. No one else has a center that can even come close to his level.

All of these other guards people mention could theoretically be better than ours but our guards are good enough so the gap isn't enormous. Flip it around and no one else in our path can say the same at center.

Everyone can be beaten but I am very confident in what this team can do coming out of this bracket.

I think tOSU is in good as shape to make a run as any team. Kansas and Georgetown are also on top of their games. I also use this stat when the Buckeye doubters out here in llinois get on me, tOSU has WON every game they have been the favorite in, our 3 losses we were the underdog. We wouldn't be the Underdog again till the finals so I like our chances. One caveat on Dec 10th I had the Bucks beating UF by 10 plus in Glendale.

I would argue that Roy Hibbert from Georgetown comes close enough matching up with Oden to give us serious problems. Luckily we won't have to worry about that until the final four (if at all).

Yeah I think he was talking about the South bracket...

As far as Hibbert/Oden battle, he might be the one person that could really match up with Oden, but I Oden possess more athletic ability than Hibbert, and is better on the defensive end...

How is Oden at shooting free throws? I suspect he will have to take quite a few of them. I doubt any team, from CCSU on up, is going to simply accept the matchup issues without some, shall we say, extremely physical play.

62.5% left-handed
68.4% right-handed (last four games only)

Welcome and a funny comic to go with it...

What are your thoughts on your second round(Nevada/Creighton) and 3rd round(aTm, Louisville) match ups...

You guys struggled in non conference against some of the higher rated seeds in the tourney...
