Songs you hated but now like

  • One more variation of the song thread theme. Name a song that you used to really hate but now really like. Not a song that you used to think sucked but now can tolerate, but rather a song that has gone from one extreme to the other on the hate/love scale.

Mine is "Get Down Tonight" by KC and the Sunshine band. When I was in Air Force basic training in Aug-Sep 1975, our flight (term for the smallest level of an official organized group) was housed in one of the few remaining WWII-era wooden barracks left on Lackland AFB. There was no A/C, so the windows were kept open at night (temps were still in the upper 70s/low 80s at night, with muggy humidity). About a block or so away was The Skylark Club that had music playing until late at night...loud music. I must've heard that song 4-5 times a night, every single night of basic training while trying to go to sleep. It's good thing we weren't issued weapons with live rounds else I would've pulled a Full Metal Jacket on someone. Now when I hear it, it makes me think of basic training, and when I was 18 and away from home for the first time...I now really like the song a lot. There's no way I would've ever thought I'd end up liking the song so much, after I had loathed it as much as I did.

I did not dig Coldplay, but I have turned the corner since listening to their newest album...

The on song that fits into this category for me is In the Meantime by Spacehog. I used to get annoyed hearing it, but now it is on my iPod...

"Love Song" by Tesla. It got so overplayed by the radio that I could not stand to hear it, but now if I hear, I realize it was actually a really good song, and I enjoy it.
On the opposite tack, I cannot stand to listen to Bob Dylan's "Hurricane" b/c during the 2004 football season the kids on the football team I am on staff with would literally play that song 7 or 8 times a day in the lockerroom before and after practice and games-why-even the kids' didn't know-they just did it. I like Dylan, but I cannot stand that song, and probably will continue to for many years.

Hated The Beatles. But around freshman year of high school, realized that many of the songs I hummed and such were Beatles songs. So I gave up hating, and went to loving.

Although Pink Floyd Hendrix, and Zeppelin are tops with me, I enjoy The Beatles a lot.

    I can admit I was wrong.

"We are the Champions" by Queen. I disliked it after hearing it played while many teams celebrated their victories. But then I heard it several times after the Bulls won titles in the '90's, and it sounds pretty good hearing it when your team is celebrating.

I know I didn't mind hearing it in January 2003, or last October for the White Sox. :wink2:
