Songs/Albums that Changed Your Life

The "Supper's Ready" on "Seconds Out" (live) is much better, if you ask me.

I guess I would have to say, the album that "changed my life" was:

aoxomoxoa_hi.jpg

A buddy of mine taped it for me in the Spring of 1985. As I recall, at first the only song I liked was "St. Stephen." However, by Summer 1985 I was a fully initiated Dead Head.

I would say, the next album that made any impression on me was

(Was a Pick of Shake Your Money Maker - Black Crowes)

From spring 1985 through approximately summer 1990, if it was recorded after 1980 or so, I wouldn't listent to it. Why? Paula Abdul, Thompson Twins, Fine Young Cannibals, etc.. ruined me for "modern music" But then, the Crowes came along, and I regained "Hope" for "modern music"

Then, after being a one man army against Grunge, I listened to:

PearlJam-Ten.jpg

I began to appreciate grunge.

But, then, several years later, I was dusting off my CD collection, and came across:

and back to "my musical roots" (if you will) went I. Anyone else - around the age of 30 - pick up the stuff you listened to when you were a teen and realize, "Damn, that shit is pretty fuckin good" and you go back to listening to it? That's where i'm at now (although, I still mix in some new stuff (lame attempt to stay marginally hip))

My life has been changed by lesbians....twice.

Indigo Girls - Closer to Fine (the song where I realized my new college friends were cool and that my sheltered life in rural Ohio really sucked)

Indigo Girls - Power to Two (this song helped me realize that Manfred was "The One")

Not really life changing, but just recently Manfred won tickets to see Bruce Springsteen with the Seeger Sessions Band. This may sound lame, but it was a very empowering performance -- one of the best I've ever seen. I can't stop thinking about it!

I don't know if any of ya'll have heard this, but I've been listening to this for nearly two weeks straight, and I still can't get over it. The lyrics and instrumentals are great, and the vocals are soothing in a weird sort of way.

Actually, the entire OK Computer cd changed my life, and even though it is not my favorite song by Radiohead (Let Down), this was the song that first turned me on to them. IMO, they are the greatest band in the world. They will go down as one of the most important rock bands in history.

OK Computer is a great cd, but I liked Pablo Honey and, to a lesser degree, The Bends much more. However, my vote goes to:

WOW! As a HUGE Radiohead fan, I have never heard anyone say that they liked Pablo Honey more than OK Computer. The Bends and Kid A are understandable. To each his own.

Siamese Dream is a great cd by the way. Probably a top 5 in my book.

311- Music
Outkast- Atliens
Sublime- 40 Oz. to freedom
Beastie Boys- License to Ill
Rage Against the machine- Bombtrack
G Love and the Special sauce- Self titled album
Jimi Hendrix- The essential Jimi Hendrix (sort of a compilation album)
Jack Johnson- Brushfire Fairytales

Those albums really kind of stuck on me as I grew up and really started to generate different tastes for music.

Nowdays I am really digging on Ben Folds. Rocking the suburbs is a great album........

There are so many different albums that have shifted my thoughts, and one's that have inspired me. All of those albums above represent a pivot in my life, and I associate them with some kind of change that I underwent. There are plenty of songs that I have left out, but I tend to think that a great song can change your life if it comes at a time when you are looking for it.
