The "Supper's Ready" on "Seconds Out" (live) is much better, if you ask me.
I guess I would have to say, the album that "changed my life" was:
A buddy of mine taped it for me in the Spring of 1985. As I recall, at first the only song I liked was "St. Stephen." However, by Summer 1985 I was a fully initiated Dead Head.
I would say, the next album that made any impression on me was
From spring 1985 through approximately summer 1990, if it was recorded after 1980 or so, I wouldn't listent to it. Why? Paula Abdul, Thompson Twins, Fine Young Cannibals, etc.. ruined me for "modern music" But then, the Crowes came along, and I regained "Hope" for "modern music"
Then, after being a one man army against Grunge, I listened to:
I began to appreciate grunge.
But, then, several years later, I was dusting off my CD collection, and came across:
and back to "my musical roots" (if you will) went I. Anyone else - around the age of 30 - pick up the stuff you listened to when you were a teen and realize, "Damn, that shit is pretty fuckin good" and you go back to listening to it? That's where i'm at now (although, I still mix in some new stuff (lame attempt to stay marginally hip))
