solipsistic vocabulary

It's not "selfishness" to express one's personal preference. Solipsism enters the equation when you insist that your opinion is the only legitimate one and the views of everyone else (i.e., the national media, poll voters, the BCS, basically everyone but yourself) mean nothing. I didn't do that; you did. My point is that most people want a little validation from somewhere else besides their own head, or, in this case, their own clearly biased fellow fans.

If you find that boring, sorry. But why attack me for my "vocabulary"? When a word means precisely what I want to say, I use it. You used selfishness, which sounds less pretentious, but is also not the right choice of words for what we're talking about. So why should I be unclear just because you have a problem with words over 3 syllables? I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence; if I thought people wouldn't understand "solipsism," I wouldn't have used it.

Yeah. People with PhDs generally are restricted to 2 syllables, of course. Do yourself a favor and save the condescention for someone else you have some clue about. :shake:

I didn't say a word attacking anyone else's opinion...I merely stated my own. If you have a problem with that, tough shit...and that's not too many syllables to understand.

Congrats on the PhD. You spelled condescension wrong.

You criticized me for trying to impress people with my vocabulary. Whatever I said, it couldn't have been as ridiculously overt as "I have a PhD." One would hope you wouldn't have to say that; one would hope it would be apparent. You also certainly did attack someone's opinion--nearly the whole country's, in fact. It was your total dismissal of everyone's opinion but your own that started this little chat in the first place. Attacking them would have been better, because it would have meant engaging the ideas of others. You simply said they don't matter.

I don't really have a problem with that. I just thought it was worth commenting on, because that sort of thinking is a slippery slope. It leads to--you guessed it, solipsism. Your latest post is just another example: No argument, no discussion, no compromise--if your opinion differs from mine, "tough shit."

Wow, congrats...you picked up on that intentional display fast. Figure that out all on your own?

The only reason I stated I have a PhD is because you said I "have a problem with more than 3 syllable words." It was a way of illustrating that you are judging the intelligence of people you know nothing about. There are plenty of ways to be less "overt"...obviously that wasn't the intent.

As for the spelling, sorry, had to get back to an experiment and didn't have time to proofread...have to work for a living, like most people.

You never quoted or cited where I attacked anyone else's position, unless you count the AP as an attack, in which case yes, I did, because I don't think the human polls mean shit. Different discussion, but I didn't attack any board member's opinion, until you started with the "this isn't the olden days".

We have officially wasted enough of this board's time with this pissing match...if you want to continue this, PM me. Otherwise, I am done.

Wow,

Its times like these when I am so thankful that I am a Nihilist.

I believe in nothing. :wink2:

I must admit that EdDantes likes impressing people with his vocab, kind of John Dewey-ish.

I think I am assuming correctly that no one will be even slightly impressed with anyone's vocabulary on this site. So if you think I'm trying to impress you, instead of merely saying what I mean in the best way I know how, then you're probably mistaken.
