First SOCOM Confrontation Details
We set eyes on Sony's first next-gen take on its tactical series.

May 17, 2007 - Though no word has been given until... just now, it's been rather obvious for some time that the SOCOM franchise would be making its way to the PlayStation 3. Well, the orders have been given and SOCOM Confrontation will be headed to Sony's third console sometime this fall.

Hardcore fans of the series will certainly be interested to know that the game is not being handled by Zipper Interactive but rather Slant Six, the Sony Bend-offshoot studio that is also handling SOCOM: Tactical Strike on the PSP. While we didn't get the chance to see the game running live and in person, what we saw in the trailer and what we've seen of the portable title should leave fans with little worry.

11/15 SOCOM is released as a download on PS3.. I dig it, no lines, no selling out of the game, and much quicker load times off of the HD as opposed to a disc.

Anyother SOCOMers on BP? Me and some buddies roll with a [614] tag and most of us are n00b.'something'.. I'm n00b.pwnage is anyone wants to friend me and play a game

My Review

When I get used to controls, it seems to be the perfect tactical non-run and shoot fighter.
Ranked games are 1 deaths only or controlled respawn.
You customize everything (like COD4 you can create special sets to save your preferences).
You even choose your style of camo, like Armys new camo, or the Marines desert, or marines urban - you choose hat, shirt, pants, knee pads, flak jacket and face paint styles out like 10 different patterns.
With the REDICULOUSLY HUGE level, camo will matter - I have been on 3 different levels so far and had a walkthrough of the new map being released and they are about 2 to 3 times if not bigger than CoD4's biggest level- so yes is you stand out you will be sniped all day.
Levels are not 2 level like Cod4 (you are either on the street, or up in a
building) these are multi level, inside and out. You can be getting sniped from foxholes, the second level of a tower, 3rd level,4th... Bullets can come from anywhere just like in the real world...
Like I said- the controls are different enough from CoD4 that it has been very frustrating - CoD4 grenade = SOCOM mic = dead. Cod4 reload = SOCOM Jump = dead.
I say pay thr $40, download it and get good. I think if you want the REAL tactical fighter, it is here.

After devoting hours and hours, first trying to get the friggin thing to work.. and then enjoying it.. I have decided this is the best SOCOM since the 1st one. (Sorry S2 fans, the 1st one IMO was much better.. and 3, CA were jokes)


Theres a lot of features missing that are going to be added with a client side patch:
  1. Calendar Features
  2. Party Mode
  3. Clan Ladders
..to name a few.. theres some issues and bugs that have become common for online games that will be addressed too.

The maps are awesome. Bringing back my all-time favorite: Desert Glory, Frost Fire is back and fun (I miss the bright yellow captain suits) and supersizing Crossroads has made the map crazy (sniper battel on the roof tops - I love that the snipers have a bad view of the streets - plenty of spots in the alleys and bottle necks).

The new maps are unreal. Big - but not too big - and incredibly detailed. Urban Wasteland and Fallen are instant classics.

The guns are solid. I don't like that you have to join diffrent clans to get a certain gun (ex. SAS has the IW-80 & the SEALS have the SCAR) - I've found myself rocking the SMGs more-so than any other SOCOM.


New features that stand out:
  1. Proxy Mic (The best thing of all-freaking-time)
  2. Sixaxis lean (The worst thing of all-freaking-time - bring back the D-pad lean.. the duck behind cover is the only saving grace)
  3. Shoulder Camera (Not bad, I switched back to the classic camera)
  4. Knife Kills (Bad. Ass.)
I want to touch on the Proxy Mic -

When near an enemy (or team) anything said into the mic can be heard if within close distance. This works both for you and against you.

I find myself not communicating with my team if I'm near a bunch of enemys because I don't want them to hear me.

But if you're in a gun fight - yell out 'he's right in front of you behind the boxes' and watch the enemy turn around.. or 'Fuck, I'm out of ammo - need help' and watch the enemy rush you for the easy kill, or so he thinks.

The BEST part of the proxy mic, is sneaking up behind someone - talking shit - knife them - and dance on their body. I find myself talking mad shit in this game.. which I've always done, but now it's to the other team!

Oh, and after you kill someone, they hear what you say..

Last night, a dude used a gernade launcher and missed me. I proceeded to unload a round into his face.. went over to his body and told him what a nice gernade launcher he had and what an excellent shot with it he was.

The game is playable now, servers had some serious issues but I've been problem free since day 2/3.. As a SOCOM fan boy - this game exceeded my expectations - SOCRACK is back, minutes turn into hours.

We're rocking the 614 clan around - any one wants in, once the clan features get rolling, PM me or hit me up on PSN and lets merc some christmas noobs.

I took a hit off the pipe on Tuesday, I have no desire to detox.

NCAA just makes me itch now, whenever I am holding a controller but not playing SO-Crack it doesn't feel right. Like Trainspotting.

CoD4 is almost dead to me now:(

Patch 1.2 came out and fixed the scope issues and added stability to the servers.. Patch 1.3 has been announced, this one has made the SOCOM vets happy:
