Mad River Glen (VT) is nuts! It's a total culture shock to those used to "groomed" slopes. Not for the novice at all! Many may find it too "old time" New England skiing. Frozen streams as trails. Old time narrow trail tree skiing and stumps and rocks. :tongue2: You've been warned!

Go west and save your ass!

For a 26 year old who has never skiied in his life - how long does it take to learn? That is to say, if I spent a week renting stuff and taking lessons at Snowmass or Taos or something like that....would I be able to be pretty serviceable at the end of the trip?

Depends how athletic you are. I have a buddy that went from not skiing to being able to handle almost any slope going once a week for a year. His wife has been skiing for 5 years and never made it past snowplow. Once you learn it's like riding a bike. I go up to NY maybe once a year and have never been out west. I would have to get it much better shape to go out there.
