Six S. Carolina Players Charged With Theft

Thu Jan 20, 6:30 PM ET

By JEFFREY COLLINS, Associated Press Writer

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Six current and former South Carolina football players were charged Thursday with stealing $18,000 worth of equipment from Williams-Brice Stadium last November.

The university said laptop computers, video equipment and framed photographs were stolen from the South Carolina locker room area on Nov. 22, shortly after the Gamecocks were told they would not go to a bowl as punishment for an on-field brawl with Clemson.

"Regrettably, a few of our student-athletes made a very poor decision during the course of a frustrating situation, and they must now face the consequences," athletic director Mike McGee said.

Offensive lineman Woodly Telfort was charged with grand larceny, a felony. He was accused of stealing more than $1,000 in equipment.

Quarterbacks Syvelle Newton and Dondrial Pinkins have been charged with petit larceny, a misdemeanor, along with defensive lineman Freddy Saint-Preux and former safety Rodriques Wilson.

A warrant is pending for a sixth player the school did not identify.

Telephone calls placed to four of the players were not answered; one player was not listed. They were expected to be arraigned in Richland County bond court Thursday evening.

New coach Steve Spurrier said he will support the decisions of campus police and prosecutors as the case moves forward.

"Hopefully we'll never have a situation like this happen again," Spurrier said.

What's funny is, if six football players get charged at the same time, it's just a bad incident. If six separate players get charged/arrested of six separate incidents, not only is it bad, but the media calls it a lack of control on the part of the coach. Are sports reporters really that appreciative of the teamwork and coordination it takes to get six players prosecuted/arrested at once? That's the only reason I can think of to justify such a double standard. Just think of how much better things would be in Columbus if JT could get all of his players to do all their stupid shit together in one fell swoop.:roll2:

C'mon BN! I know its the middle of the night there, but wakey, wakey!

Help us out here! Give us the truth, our brother! Tell it like it really is! Say it loud! Tell us so that ESPiN can see that we, too, know their truth! Name and shame them!

What is the REAL cause behind the sudden criminal outbreak in the SEC?

Follow this story up with Stoops acting the humanitarian role. Plus the NCAA overrules the Big XII Conference and agrees to give Dvaoracek another year of eligibility.

Oklahoma Reinstates Dusty Dvoracek

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Oklahoma reinstated defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek, who was kicked off the team in September after being involved in a bar fight.

Since his dismissal, Dvoracek has undergone anger-management and alcohol-related counseling.

Oklahoma applied for a medical hardship waiver to allow the senior to play another year. The waiver was denied by the Big 12 Conference but the school appealed to the NCAA, which granted Dvoracek a year of eligibility.

``When Dusty was removed from the team he looked for ways to overcome the difficulties he was having,'' Stoops said in a statement Thursday. ``A number of outstanding people worked with him for several months and continue to now. I am satisfied, as are they, that he has earned another opportunity with our program.''

Dvoracek got into a fight at a Norman bar in which one of his high-school friends, Matt Wilde, suffered a head injury and spent several days in Norman Regional Hospital.

Police said Wilde's family did not want to pursue charges, and Dvoracek was never arrested or charged.

Dvoracek, from Lake Dallas, Texas, was a third-team All-American in 2003.

``I squandered an opportunity to be on a great football team last fall and embarrassed a number of people including myself,'' Dvoracek said. ``It was a hard lesson to learn, but I learned it.''

Stoops said Dvoracek's actions will be scrutinized.

``The people at OU held me to a high standard before I was considered for a return and I recognize that nobody was required to do this for me,'' Dvoracek said. ``I want to show them that their trust in me is deserved.''

As to the incident at SC. The players had just been informed of the bowl ban because of the incident during the Clemson game. The larceny involved equiptment belonging to the athletic dept, computers, projectors, framed pictures ect. I'll link a local article in a few minutes.

Here's an AP article.

Syvelle Newton and Pinkins were the top 2 QBs on the depth chart.

Newton has been involved in a gruesome brawl at the end of a HS game which led to the team being barred from the postseason, a brawl at Clemson which kept the team from the postseason, and now a theft that may well end his career.

TOBC will be looking for a reason to bring in his own QB and mold him...nothing like giftwrapping it for him.

NCAA needs to do an audit of these guys admission data.. SATs and GPAs... cuz when think you have to break in and steal your own pictures, someone has to do an IQ check...

Tressel has lost control of both the SC and OU football teams!!

He and Geiger need to go if they can't control those players!!!!
Sorry BN27, but the REEAALLLLYY BBIIGGGG news just can't wait. YSU broke the big one.

:yow1:

It's Tressel and Geiger that are to blame. Honestly, I don't know how these guys sleep at night. You see its their low morals and the criminal nature of the OSU football team that have created all of these problems.

And now the race is on. Heck in one night SC almost got half as many players arrested as it took Tressel and Geiger years to pull off. You just wait until this virus spreads to the high quality, church-based programs, like Miami. You just wait until those investigative journalists at ESPiN hear about this!

Lets not forget that JT and Geiger are culpable in the poor exercise of program control swiftly demonstrated by Spurrier ...

Bet they were all down on the links when this happened or somewhere near Hilton Head (once a town in SC now the title of the latest Paris Hilton video).

And since BN27 is taking a dose of sleepers this AM:

This is nothing comapred to the ---

CORRUPTION AT OHIO STATE.
(Is it possible to have an entire thread in sarcasm font?)
