The point that I am trying to make about the MLB draft is that I would like to know after, let's say, round 10 how much do the major-league clubs offer kids right out of high school. I would think that if a baseball coach would work hard on a kid and try to sell him the value of a good "almost free" college education that some kids might take the education first especially when you get down that far in the draft.

Ohio State has put a lot of money into the facilities for the baseball program and I guess I would like to start seeing some results. Just because you did that go to a game does that mean that you are not a fan/supporter of the program.

I understand what you're saying

its just as someone mentioned earlier

its hard to get top baseball players from like Florida Texas or California (or anywhere else out of the region) to Ohio State

Ohio State certainly hasent been terrible at baseball, but still the program is not near the caliber of schools like Texas Miami CSU-Fullerton Rice Arizona State Stanford etc......

its not just Ohio State though, the whole Big 10 usually struggles when it comes to baseball recruiting, its just not a attractive place to come play baseball when you could be at say Texas or Arizona State

2. It's about the image of snow. You aren't going to get kids from the South up here when you have others describing the cold weather/ frequent snow. It's irrelevant whether the snow is actually on the ground when they play. I know that the air is certainly cold.

4. There are thousands of kids that don't get drafted yearly. Getting kids drafted is an accomplishment.

Todd needs to get off of his butt and sell the program. He is living on laurels that are 10 years old or more.:(

1. Of course they need to be sold.The point is simply that the "great" talent is being drafted into the league and signed. The good talent is out there, but I think we need to be careful with the superlatives.

2. Baseball isn't like football/basketball where there are 5 star physical specimens that can immediately be seen as offers. A kid from D-4 local may be better than someone from D-1 in Michigan. It's hard to tell and judge.

4. You are complaining about the lack of talent yet are speaking of wanting kids that "aren't going to make it to the bigs." It seems that you want that high end talent that will get the guaranteed cash out of high school. That is the type where it is hard to sell on education. It is more about a program's history of getting players drafted/developed.

5. I was merely speaking of the built in advantages Florida/Cal have with the weather. I should have stated it clearer.

2. Doesn't seem to deter Minnesota or Michigan. And it is a lot colder and snowier up there than here.

4. Being drafted is an accomplishment and I don't mean to denigrate it. However, the vast majority of those drafted will never see the roster of a MLB team, I think that's all I'm trying to say.

I will say that it is an absolute embarrassment to have MAC level schools taking some of the top end talent from under our noses. Casey Wilson, from Archbishop Hoban, may be the best player in Ohio and he has signed with Kent State. That should not happen under Ohio State's nose.
