For some reason, I cannot edit the initial post in a thread, whether that post was made by me or someone else. Apparently, I can edit any other post, whether by me or another.

Everytime I edited a title of a recruiting thread or tried to move it to the 07 forum, I was given the error page.

All the modifications (including the front page) are off, while the damage is being addressed by Jelsoft. This includes, but is not limited to, the book, blogs, galleries, vbPlaza, quizzes, the arcade, donations, spell check, the warning system, post awards, medals, auto-linker, and double post checking.

I'm on "Coach" as I've given access of Clarity to Jelsoft to facilitate the process.

You are a bot, not a live user. I don't believe that you are Clarity...damn cyborgs.

Things that may be better?

One thing for sure the site (yes, stripped down, so not making as many db queries?) is loading and rendering at lightning speed. Is some of that attributable to the upgraded code?

It's a variety of things. Chiefly, it's that we aren't working with a vB-level work-around for the problem that led to blank white pages anymore. It's also that we're running a better OS. Fewer queries would have to be a factor as well. So too is less traffic because of the issues over the last few days.

I'm going to be upgrading vB to 3.5.5, and then 3.6.0 when everything is stable and secure again. Hopefully today. Part of that migration will see about 6 mods/hacks that we run now go away, as they've been absorbed into the core vB code as internal features. I'll be upgrading the rest, save one or two that won't be staying with us.

TopX will *not* be making an immediate comeback, as it was the point of abuse for our little friend. When and if it's safe to use, we'll bring it back.

Will the upgrade to 5.5 and 6.0 come with server down time, or is this stuff that can occur whilst the site is up?

Server down time no, forum closed time yes -- but only about 10-15 minutes. Some mods/hacks will be down a bit longer than that, but as they've been down for a day or two now anyway, that's not the end of the world.

The days of hours and hours while I do the upgrades by hand, line by line in the case of some mods, are long since over. Happily. Most of the heavy lifting has already been done, after we changed OS and upgraded MySQL, PHP and Apache the other day.

re: the inability to edit certain posts in certain threads -- it's related to corrupted tables, which all comes back to the damage done. My expectation remains that we should be back on track within the next few hours, and past the "repair" phase.

In all seriousness, thanks for all you do.
