Single Game Football Tickets Tips

my father and i are currently in the process of searching for tickets on ebay. though it's difficult to predict, how do you think that prices will fluctuate in the next couple days? i'm not asking about particulars... just whether prices will vary much in the next few days and when there may be a reversal, if any.

many thanks.

There's a glut of tickets out there. Patience will assure you a good deal. I bet you could get one for 250 near kickoff......maybe less. Too many sellers out there...

#1 vs. #2

scU:scum3: Week:

It's Tuesday night the week of the biggest ticket this season...this decade?...so:scum3:e say ever in this historic rivalry. We've had an incredible year to this point, following our beloved Buckeyes thru an undefeated 11-0 record, 6-0 in the 'Shoe :osu:.

At each of those 6 ga:scum3:es in C-bus we saw (though told differently all preseason) tickets sold to 'Joe Public' on Ga:scum3:e Day Saturday through the Ticket Office at the Schott. With that knowlege, here are :scum3:y thoughts for this week > the scU:scum3: ga:scum3:e: :groove:

I've been one who has constantly pointed out the inconsistencies of the Ticket Office's spoken, written, and recorded ':scum3:is-info' regarding Public Football Ticket Sales. "We don't have any tickets. We don't expect any to be turned back in." This week, those of us who enquired have heard very si:scum3:ilar 'lines'...only this ti:scum3:e I a:scum3: inclined to believe the:scum3: (unfortunately ).

The long and short of it: I've talked to people...I've e-:scum3:ailed people...and I've talked to people who have talked to people. It truly appears that the Ticket Office has no tickets at this point. Does that co:scum3:pletely :scum3:ean that there is no possible way that they will have any turned back in? No, (fro:scum3: what we've seen with Texas last year) but if by chance they did get any, I've been told that they don't even plan on 'releasing' those for public sale. It see:scum3:s the plan is to redistribute any (if returned in the first place) to 'special cases' (alu:scum3:ni / big donors / VIPs who have requested additional tix, and even a few 'worthy causes')

While this see:scum3:s to be quite a bit of an annoyance to those of us who were really hoping to score tix as with the other ga:scum3:es (:scum3:yself included) it's hard for :scum3:e to be too upset after 'talking' to a few of the people who did get the:scum3: and hearing their stories.

And hey, I':scum3: still not totally convinced that a handful of tickets won't show up on Ga:scum3:e Day and a few lucky people in the right place at the right ti:scum3:e will find tickets to the biggest showdown on the planet for $62...but we'll just have to wait and see. And if it doesn't happen...there will be :scum3:ore ga:scum3:es next season, and we know where to score tickets don't we. :wink2:

P.S.
sorry about all the :scum3: :scum3: :scum3:...wow, didn't realize how difficult it would be adding to the positive kar:scum3:a of our Bucks :osu: for The Ga:scum3:e this week .

:osu3: :banger:

250 near kickoff? do other posters agree? it seems to me to be too risky to take the leap of expecting to find tickets for decent prices so close to the game. i don't know. i don't have experience with this.

any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

A friend of :scum3:ine came over for the Penn St. ga:scum3:e without a ticket this year. As he wandered around asking scalpers "Whatcha got? How :scum3:uch ya askin?" a guy ca:scum3:e up to us and told us not to pay the kind of prices tickets were going for fro:scum3: the scalpers, and even so:scum3:e of the patrons trying to sell 1 or 2 'extras' (this was 3-1/2 hours before kickoff or so). He said that each year he co:scum3:es over for a few ga:scum3:es and gets tickets about 1/2 hour to an hour before kickoff fro:scum3: people getting rid of tickets right around the Stadiu:scum3:. He said he pays a fraction of what people are spending on Lane Ave. or around St. John Arena (often less than face value for 'regular' ga:scum3:es) because older people who aren't co:scum3:puter savy enough to sell the:scum3: on ebay, and don't want to spend all :scum3:orning with their arm in the air walking around Lane Ave. decide at the last second that the weather and extre:scum3:e crowds are :scum3:ore than they want to deal with. So they drive to the 'Shoe an hour or so before Ga:scum3:e ti:scum3:e, :scum3:ake a little :scum3:oney, and drive ho:scum3:e to watch fro:scum3: the co:scum3:fort of their couch.

We didn't have a chance to test this because we did end up buying tickets for hi:scum3: and his girl friend fro:scum3: a group of late tickets turned into the Ticket Office, but it :scum3:ade sense to :scum3:e...the later you wait, the cheaper tickets should be. And if you're willing to hold out 'till right up to or even a bit after kickoff you could end up saving yourselves quite a few dollars.

It carries a bit of a risk too I guess (depending on de:scum3:and I suppose you could end up getting shut out), but that is the "friendly advice" we were given as another alternative to the high prices for this year's Penn St. Ga:scum3:e.

thanks for the response, padraig. that worries the heck out of me, though. first, i wouldn't want to get caught by a cop. is there much of an anti-scalping presence around the shoe? also, getting shutting out would lead to my taking the fetal position.

i got a ticket for texas last year about 20 minutes before kickoff for $100.
for penn state this year, scalpers were asking several hundreds of dollars per ticket all day long, then we got a pair together for $75 a piece about 90 minutes before the game.
while i don't expect to find a ticket for that low of a price, i don't think it's completely unreasonable to find one for $250 or so on game day.

I've never seen a cop break up a ticket transaction, especially between a couple fans (scalpers with fists full of tickets and no license to sell them are another story)

What I'm afraid of, though, is someone selling a fake ticket, and there'd be no way of knowing it's counterfeit until it got scanned at the gate.

that's why i'm thinking about going through ebay anyway (sure, higher price). if you buy with paypal, you're covered in the event of fraud.

be careful though.. paypal coverage kinda sucks.

I bought a tv off ebay about a year ago and it never got shipped.. Paypal only refunded me $175 of the $900 i spent.

Not until I had a lawyer write a letter to the seller did I get the rest of my money back.

Somewhere on here is a post with pictures of all the different types of tickets. I believe it also had an article with quotes from the director of ticketing and he gave a list of what to look for to tell you that it's a legit ticket.

Perhaps someone else remembers that article.

There's a couple of articles in the scU:scum3: thread dealing with the ticket prices and ebay, etc. and has quotes from Bill Jones, OSU Senior Ticket Director about counterfeit tickets. One by the Dispatch was posted by Grad on the 33rd page of the thread. (in that article :scum3:r. Jones did say that he has personally spotted counterfeit tix to this ga:scum3:e on eBay)

There are also pictures of all the different types of tix in the 'Sticky' eBay thread at the top of this Foru:scum3: posted by LoudBuckeyeGirl.

I don't know if there is one article inparticular with pics attached, but that's where I saw those two pieces of info :scum3:yself.

Good call on getting tix right outside the stadium close to kickoff.

Fortunately, I've almost always had access to tickets in the past and have a media pass to most games now but whenever I've been without one, that's definitely the way to go.

From years of experience, holding off until close to kickoff is the best possible situation to get tickets. My personal advice is to never ever, ever buy a sporting event ticket from Ebay or any online brokers, both of which will always be at least 3X what you can get them for outside the stadium. As kickoff gets closer, the sellers are starting to panic or just want to get into the game and there are fewer buyers because not many are willing to wait that long. You have to be willing to let it hang out there and accept the slim chance that you might not get in but I've never had it not work out for the best.

In fact, my favorite scalping story was the Washington State game in 02. I'd told myself I wouldn't pay more than $75 which was a pretty ridiculous goal for what was a pretty big game. Five minutes before kickoff, I was starting to resign myself to the fact that I was watching this one from the Hineygate when a couple came up and asked if I wanted one. I asked how much and they said "No, do you WANT one?" They wouldn't even let me pay them. I finally at least talked them into letting me buy them drinks and some snacks from the concession stand.

Since I don't have a pass for Michigan, my goal all along has been to spend $100 plus whatever my parking pass would go for on ebay. After getting $120 from it (another example of ebay prices being outrageous), I'm nearly 100% positive I'll get in for $220.

Sorry for the long winded first post but just trying to help out.
