Since it is slow - who wins this intrasquad game?

A hypothetical game between A) our Freshmen (incoming and RS) plus our '09 commits and B) everyone else on the roster. (For sake of argument put Boren with the younger group.)

To make it reasonable assume that all players have four years experience and have reached their potential.

Which squad is better?

That's the point of the post. To expose the nutjobs.
This is hard to do because so many stars on the current team have exceeded expectations to such a high degree.

If you asked me back in 2005-06 to grade the 2008 roster, I would have given it a lower grade than I would give the 2011 roster right now.

I suppose that means I'd take the 2011 roster in a game if they progress along the same arcs that the 2008 roster has, but that's a tall order to fill.

Consider this: The '08 and '09 kids have never lost to Michigan, never lost a bowl game, and have never lost to an SEC team.

They're clearly the superior squad.

Well, other than that Boren kid. He's a whiny quitter.

Hmmm. Well, the rookie squad has a rare prospect from my alma mater, so that's a big plus, and it has the professional and more talented quarterback. But he'll have to use every ounce of his mobility since Zach's brother is either lazy enough for three, or a spy sent to purposely muff blocks and get the QB hurt. In the end though I give the edge to the rookie squad. Their s(EC)peed, recruited in a vain effort to cancel out the burners at Michigan ('08 counts for this too - Tressel is all-knowing and all-seeing and saw that coming from five months before Lloyd announced his retirement) is what gives the rookie squad the victory.

OK now seriously: The current squad is very similar to the one that lost two NC games in a row, missing only a small portion of their talent. So giving the edge to the rookie squad has a little bit of the implication that out of those 40-odd players comes a 22-man lineup plus special teams that would win the national title. Hell, I know you guys have high hopes, and I know you're assuming more or less full-potential development, but it's too early for that call.

OK. In this scenario you've got the current starting team vs a starting 22 comprised of mostly 08 & 09 kids. After considering a starting 22 for both teams, it is sad to consider the whole load of current So and Jr backups that are leftover, which probably don't start on either team. Sanzenbacher, Washington, Ballard, Saine, Herron, Chekwa, Rolle, Moeller, Larimore, etc ...

Right? Gibson & Iron Head may be fighting for starting positions this year amongst the upper classmen, but everybody else in the older group has been here 3+ years and I think maybe 18 or 19 of those positions are not open barring injury.

You could actually field a 3rd team with the guys that fall through the cracks which would finish no worse than maybe 3rd or 4th in the Big 10. :tongue2:

It's really embarrassing.

... for all the other Big Ten teams that are losing recruits to JT.
