SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

There was no time for nfl teams to even get in the discussion. He went from the Bay into scUM's loving embrace in one fell swoop. The word around SF was that he was essentially told in early December he wasn't welcome back and entered right into negotiations with his alma mater.

The NFL is full of dolts. Harbaugh was very successful in SF until all of the friction caused the wheels to fall of in year four. Make no mistake, owners/gms will take one look at his resume from 2011-13 and jump to hire him.
It took time and Michigan putting on the full court press to get Harbaugh to come home (I don't mind using a basketball metaphor here because they wear a basketball logo on their Nike jerseys). They enlisted the aid of former players like Charles Woodson and Tom Brady to help recruit him. If any NFL team was interested, there was plenty of time to get involved. Harbaugh managed to get one of the biggest coaching salaries in college football largely because Michigan was afraid he'd stay in the NFL. But there was no indication that anyone in the NFL was interested. It didn't happen in a flash.

It's not really worth arguing about but yes they were. It's been talked about for many years even when the program was still seen as "elite" (at least to some). The entitlement/lazy/soft stuff was a topic among themselves to explain their losses in the early Tressel years with zero doubt of a faulty memory. It was in fact one of their main irrational hype points about Rich Rod coming on board with his former MMA S&C coach Barwis. They convinced themselves that the old country club atmosphere meant their guys didn't even lift weights. Once they started lifting weights it was all over for the rest of college football yadda yadda yadda
No they weren't. I feasted on schadenfreude after the 2006 game. I read all the articles in the Michigan papers online, I read all the UM message boards, I streamed Ann Arbor radio to hear Jim Brandstatter's laments. No one was blaming the loss on arrogance and entitlement. Many were complaining about the late hit penalty called on Shawn Crable.

Their excuses for losing that particular game were not the same thing as their rationalizations for the overall state of their program.

I assure you with confidence matching your own that those silly twats were going on about how the sense of entitlement under Carr made them soft/weak. The Barwiss stuff was, arguably, peak DFBIA.

You continue to argue against something that everybody here knows existed not only by 2006 but for many many years/decades before that. Arrogance and entitlement may not have been the chief flaw of scUM’s best team this century, but oh yes they were still very much in its DNA.

You realize that team lost here and then folded in their bowl game, like so many others have done since, right? Classic scUM.

"Who has it better than we do?" is Hairball's mantra and the height of arrogance.
Bonus points to him for managing to look like an idiot in the process.

Apology accepted.

If Michigan loses to Indiana today, it won't be because of arrogance and entitlement. It will because of shitty coaching. And Jim Harbaugh's fate will be sealed. I'm not sure if even a win over OSU would save him. Maybe they'd pull an Earle on him and fire him right before The Game.

But who would they turn to next?

Can you think of a time when a coaching change didn't wipe out a recruiting class? I can think of two: 1. Fick worked hard to keep the 2010/2011 class 2. Day worked his ass off to save the class Urbs had recruited in 2018/2019. Hairball is the perfect example of what usually happens - his best year came with Hoke's recruits, but his own first class was a weak one at best.

Inside hires frequently keep the recruiting class.
That's not an option for them... unless they promote Harbaugh to AD and Don Brown to HC 8D

Maybe Hairball is actually a pretty good coach, but scUM just isn't a top tier program anymore. A team can catch fire and jump into the top tier for a year or two, but IMO there are only 3 true top tier teams over the past decade.

Partially agree, they aren't the "elite" program they pretend.
However, Harbaugh has had elite classes. Got a massive media bump.
MSU and Wisconsin have had respectable success with less... no media hype or the elite recruiting.

He's consistently turned 5stars into 3stars come NFL Draft, and hasn't had any success turning 3s into 5s either.
They have absolutely underperformed the talent... and the talent wised up and went elsewhere.

If that’s the case, most of those teams make a run based on...a hot QB (see Syracuse a few years ago, Mississippi State with Prescott). Given Hairballs success with QBs so far...just wait. You’ll see.

Shit, he had Andrew Luck and could only finish 2nd.
Rodriguez was really on the money here. He is saying there's an entitlement issue there. It's systemic. that's what folks on this board have been saying for 15 years - and they are right.

... except that cultural entitlement is absolutely a coaching problem.
And also, he sucks as a HC.

The entitlement is certainly at a coaching level, but is the entire school. It’s larger than one coach and it’s hard for a coach to break it.

Now I know you are just ignorant. I never apologized to your stupid ass. I was trying to be polite. Won't make that mistake again.
