SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

Stop me if you've heard this before, but four years in...

  • Major foundational faults are appearing
  • Players don't appear to be giving full effort, and some are electing to sit out games
  • Coaching staff are bailing
  • Reports of internal discord (players not happy about being promised championships w/nothing to show for it, harbrau overriding player's vote for team MVP) are leaking from people close to the program.
  • Big game failures have the fanbase getting antsy
  • Roster is hemorrhaging talent
  • Questionable loyalty to underperforming assistants
This is exactly how things played out in Santa Clara with the 49ers. He's a year behind, as he only lasted four years there, but this is, to-a-fucking-tee, how things played out in SF. Going into his final year in SF, there were reports coming from reporters plugged into the team that players weren't buying what he was selling anymore. There were reports that certain assistant coaches were unhappy with their roles or the direction the team was taking. Losses to chief rival Seattle and games of underperformance were mounting and frustrating the fanbase. National media was saying everything would be fine because he turned them around and would be given plenty of rope to fix things. He remained steadfastly loyal to OC Greg Roman who was clearly ill-suited to utilize the talent they had accumulated on offense.

All of the above happened in the lead up to the 2014 season and peaked with reports that 49ers management had entertained trade offers for him during the spring. Most viewed 2014 as a make or break season. By early November, the team was hovering at .500 despite several upgrades via free agency and the draft to build on a team that was knocked off in the conference championship game the previous year. By the time the last 1/4 of the season rolled around, it was clear the players were no longer responding to him and his goose was cooked. This is history repeating itself.

Well yeah, it's easy to say all this now. But what have you been saying for the last 4 years?

I joined BP right around the time of Pryor's recruitment and the RR to tsun thing. Back then there were a number of posters who said that the hire would put tsun back five years. Then Clappy came along and it was another five or six years damage before they would be able to claw themselves out of the hole... And when those discussions were happening, frankly... I thought the first to be a bit of an exaggeration... and the second... I was sure that wasn't going to be that bad, but based on the accuracy of the RR predictions, I was cautiously optimistic that we could have been looking at a decade of destruction post LLLLLoyd.

Little did I know... how bang on each of those predictions would be.

And then with the hiring of Hairball there were those who looked into their crystal balls and said that he'd run through his good will in four years... I would have taken that information to the bank.

So, I guess... hats off to the folks around here for being as astute as you are. I've enjoyed watching this unfold as it has.

Any one want to give an over / under on how long they expect him to be around?

My guess is, after next year and his first loss to Day, he gone. The retread is flapping with every turn of the wheel and I get the sense that they are seriously heading for a massive blowout.

It's real... and it's spectacular.

Fully agree. A loss to Ohio State seals it. An 8 win season with a win over Ohio State extends it. A shitty season and they might kick him out the door.

I think we need to take a look at what the coaching landscape will look like next year. Who might want to pick up the pieces after he's gone?

Well let’s look at who DFBIA thinks they will choose from: Swinney, Saban, Nagy, McVay, Riley...

In my view, they'll need completely new blood. Much like it took the wilderness years of Coop to get Ohio State into what was then the modern era, scUM is woefully behind at this point. they need some to come in and change the culture from top to bottom. I'm not sure it's possible, honestly. For all his faults, RR was probably that guy... or could have been... and ... well.. you see how that worked out. Went back, immediately, to "Michigan Men" who brought back memories of yesteryear "glory." Honestly, I think it's in their DNA at this point... I don't know of any coach who could fix it.

And, as if on cue, though not talking about the head coach..... who do they identify as potential replacement Assistants? Guys from yesteryear... who, to my knowledge haven't coached at all:

West Coast Struttin

We need a zone D like Clemson's. Bring Marcus Ray in to set it up. He could get Woodson to come in & help a few times I'm sure.

Although him & Harbaugh would probably be duking it out in Schemmy hall within a week ...lol.

scUM just lost a DL coach and an LB coach... this fuck would replace them with a former S and CB.
