SimPLLLLLLLe Jim "6-13" Harbaugh (B1G Suspenders McKhakiPants, Cheater Cheater Booger Eater)

OK, up front, I'm playing devil's advocate here: Harbaugh is out of the school of "there's no such thing as bad publicity." His antics are irritating Ohio state fans... guess what, he doesn't give a shit. He's getting his name and Michigan football into the news where it hasn't been for a while except for youtube flicks of halfbacks getting slobberknocked so hard their helmets fly into the end zone, or their AD trading tickets for a six pack of Coca Cola. So what if folks in Columbus don't like it, he's not looking for their love any way.

In his first season he came into The Game with a chance to tie for the division title. He came within one inexplicable disaster of a play of defeating Michigan State and getting that monkey off the wolverines' back. He clobbered an SEC team in a bowl game... a team Ohio State couldn't beat in two meetings - and again no one except Ohio State fans cares about the circumstances in those cases.

I seriously doubt that he has the talent to come into Columbus and win this year, but 2017 could be another story.

Hoke had a better recruiting class his first year, actually beat OSU and won a major Bowl game.

If we are going to play devils advocate compare Harbaugh to his proper peer group (which is Rich Rod and Hoke, not Urban Meyer).

Excuse me sir, but you only had to buy 2 cokes, not a six pack. FAX!

1) I know you adore old times, but to put it kindly, keep them to your freaking self. This is 2016 and EzE and co dominated the SEC. Not even the biggest SEC homers would use your narrative above about the mid 00s. Bama was ecstatic that Sparty kept OSU out of the title chase this year.

2) Carr went out in complete disgrace in 2007, starting off in the top-5 before a dreadful season, complete with the Horror against Appy State. Despite that awful season, they finished it up with a win over Florida's squad, which was a very different team from the 06 & 08 title winning squads.

3) In no world does Harbaugh get credit for what Florida was under Urban or how Tressel did against him, particularly not when Florida has been so bad that they got one coach fired last year and are still rebuilding. They've been imitating Iowa for years and were as splendid of a matchup as Virginia Tech for Hoke.

4) Yes, Michigan had incredibly bad luck against Sparty. They had just as much improbable luck in their favor in the endings against Minnesota and Indiana.

Harbaugh is a really good coach. He's a great promoter and very smart. He's also insane and incredibly juvenile.

He did a great job coaching up rudock and not inexplicably making top talent play like Indiana like hoke did. I expect them to be a handful. I don't need to engage in hyperbole or give him credit for proximity to accomplishments.

With the exception of his hiring every prospect's coach or family member for a non-coaching position at UM, I am not irritated by Harbaugh's antics. I find the shirtless, tree-climbing, sleeping-over, Judge Judy worshipping Harbaugh quite amusing. Now that Michigan fans have admitted that they've gladly traded their last shred of dignity for a sniff at a CFP berth, it'll be enjoyable watching the 180 turn become a 360 if he doesn't live up to their deluded expectations.

Actually, Michigan fans haven't admitted that (at least not from what I've seen). Everyone outside of that delusional fan base realizes Michigan fans have made that trade, but Michigan fans haven't come to that realization themselves. Dumbest fan base in college football.
