Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
Did anybody else see how ABC aired most of the commercials the during the Indianapolis 500 broadcast?

Obviously they couldn't stop the race for a commercial so they had a "side by side" picture (which even had a sponsor). The actual race (live) was shown on the left side and the commercial was shown on the right side. The sound was the commercial. They did list he top three leaders under the race (on the left side).

Anyone else hate the TV timeout play stoppage at the Ohio Stadium? I'd like them try to do the same thing for the football games. They could run their "full screen" commercials during the actual time outs, end of 1st and 3rd quarters, and during half time. Other times do a "side by side" picture where they run their advertisements on one side of the screen, but show the game without commentary on the other side (i.e. do not stop the action for a commercial). If a big play occurred (which you already would have seen live), they still could show the replays and give comments after the commercial, etc.

If they really wanted to speed up the game this would do it.

No way would I want to watch a live play of OSU football while having the game sound muted and the view of the play only half-screen while being forced to listen to the commerical audio. That would ruin a TD or any other big play (not to mention any of our clips). I want to watch the game in real time. If the game lasts an extra 10-15 minutes because of pausing the game for TV timeouts, so be it.

It is a great idea for some types of sports. Auto racing for one, golf, certain track & field events, etc. are examples of the sports that can co-exist with a commercial sise by side. I saw the race and it was perfectly fine the way they aired the telecast. If something major happened I am sure ABC would have ended the commercial to go to a full scene.
