Should Ohio State provide "captions" for the deaf at the stadium?

I have the capability to display closed captions on my TV. I rarely do because it distracts from the picture.

I fail to see what essential appreciation of the game this gentleman is missing that makes him feel it is appropriate for over 100,000 other people to compromise their own enjoyment. Everything important is on the scoreboard. Hell, half the time I can't understand what the folks on the PA are saying myself. As has been suggested he can bring a radio.

IMO he is a jerk for making the request.

Perhaps we should merge this with the "rights" thread in the political forum (did the founding fathers feel that closed captioning was inalienable?).

Not to be a wiseass, but for someone who is deaf, how is a radio a solution?

I think if they include captions for the public messages that are prepared ahead of time, that should suffice. I don't think the scoreboard video should be required to have someone signing the play-by-play.

The captioning does not have to be on the scoreboard itself. As WyoBuckeye pointed out, a couple of separate scrolling displays would suffice. The displays could be similar to those in the new Yankee Stadium.

I would not have a problem with something like this.

I vote no.

How long has CC been out for television? How many years has The Shoe had an animated scoreboard that could possibly do CC for the deaf like TV does? Just sayin'.

I find it VERY hard to believe that this person is the first and only deaf person ever to attend a game at The Shoe, and yet this is the first time I have heard of anyone SUING Ohio State over this issue.

The game is played on the field, and last time I was in The Shoe I believe I watched the game with my EYES and did not really have to listen to the announcer to find out what was happening on the field. This goes for the TVs in the concession area, also. The person is just deaf, right? So they should be able to SEE what is going on.

My take on the subject: This person saw an opportunity for some monetary compensation and had a dirty, no good lawyer who saw dollar signs. (no offense Ubet, and any other attys on here )

I am so sick and tired of this PC petty bullshit where monetary compensation is pretty much at the core of the issue.:pissed:

Don't insult our intelligence by acting like this guy is missing out by not being able to hear the [censored]ing PA announcer at a football game. Whats next, do we have to hold up cards to do an OH-IO?

Like a normal hearing fan can hear the annoucer anyway over the crowd noise......:(

I was talking about a braille radio. Duh!

I missed all of page 1, so I thought you started the thread, and I was off track.

I think I need a little picture in the corner of the screen, reminding me what page I'm on. Is there an app for that?

That depends. Are you accessing BP from your iPhone or your microwave? There are some great downloads available for the newer microwaves.
