I think NYB was talking about something like this...

gillette-new.jpg

It's the razor that I used this morning. A gold plated, vintage Gillette from the 1930s that cost me $5. The blade that I used cost me 10 cents. It was a better shave than I ever had in my way too long use of overpriced cartridges.

Oh - never seen that thing before. Looks like something a caveman would have used. I'll stick to my double bladed disposables.

This stuff works great:

I used to get terrible razor burn and these really awful ingrown hairs. I had to switch from briefs to boxers. It even got to the point that it hurt to sit down or go for a run, but this stuff really seems to have done the trick. I've gotten a lot of compliments since I started using it.

Busted it out today for the first shave. It's a Wade & Butcher from Sheffield England that's around 100 years old, and I have no idea when the last time it was used. I cleaned it up, restored it and had it sent off to be rehoned and sharpened.

Damn fine shave even though I didn't push it too hard first time out.

BTW, the handles are real Buffalo Horn. They're not scratched. Rather, a John Loeb carved his name into them with the date "1912."
