Date: Jan 18, 2005

Oakland’s men’s basketball team got its second transfer student-athlete this week, with Ricardo Billings (Detroit, Mich.) enrolling at Oakland this semester after transferring from Ohio State. He will be eligible after the fall 2005 semester and have up to 1 ½ years of eligibility with the Golden Grizzlies.

Ricardo Billings, a 6-3, 205-pound guard, played in all 30 games for Ohio State last season, getting starts in eight contests with the Buckeyes. He averaged 3.8 points and 2.0 rebounds per game, including netting a career-high 13 points against Central Michigan. Billings appeared in eight games this season with Ohio State, averaging 1.1 points and 1.3 rebounds.

Billings was a star guard in the Detroit Public School League at Rogers Academy. He was a four-year starter for the Rangers and the 2002 PSL Player of the Year as a senior when he was also an all-city and all-state selection. A two-time MVP at Rogers, Billings average 22 points and 11 rebounds as a senior and 20 points and 10 rebounds as a junior as Rogers made it to the state final four both seasons.
Its to bad i didn't work out for ricardo, i always enjoyed watching him play. of all the guys i thought he would be one to flourish in the fast paced, high tempo, pressure defense matta had a xavier and brought up here.
