SG Michael Redd (NBA All Star, Olympic gold medalist)

OSUBasketballJunkie;1123537; said:

How the hell can the Bucks go from killing the Cavs to getting beat by the Heat????? I really hope they continue to suck next year so they can move Redd to Cleveland where he belongs. If you took the Cavs front court and the Bucks starting back court you would have the best team in the NBA.

Dispatch

Hawks 115, Bucks 96 -- Joe Johnson scored 28 points, Josh Childress had 20 and Atlanta kept the eighth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
The Hawks also escaped a major scare when X-rays on point guard Mike Bibby's left thumb were negative. Bibby left the game in the fourth quarter and didn't return.
Former Ohio State player Michael Redd had 20 points for Milwaukee.

Bucks' Redd ready to look ahead

Chicago - Michael Redd admits he never saw it coming.

"I've said it often, I'm committed to this organization, to this city, to this team. I signed a six-year deal. I'm looking forward to things changing around next year." - Bucks guard Michael Redd

All the changes in the off-season surely meant the Milwaukee Bucks would have no trouble eclipsing their dismal 28-54 record of last season, right?

Wrong.

As the Bucks enter April and the final 10 games of a miserable season, they sit with a 24-48 record and only six victories on the road. General manager Larry Harris has already been fired and coach Larry Krystkowiak is in a tenuous position, as are many of the players on the roster.

"Last year wasn't as bad as this year, though," Redd said. "Last year we had severe injury problems, and we would have been much better. This year, you can't really put it on injuries.

Up Close with Michael Redd

By: Joel Brigham Last Updated: 4/2/08

Even after all the frustrating loses this season, Michael Redd remains professional. He knows his team isn't going to make the playoffs, yet he still is doing all he can to keep his team motivated in the season's final few weeks.

He talked about these struggles in a recent interview with HOOPSWORLD's Joel Brigham.

I know this has been a disappointing for season you and your team, so what keeps you motivated to continue playing hard for the remainder of the season?

"You've just to continue to be professional. There is such a thing as the love of the game, so you play for the love of the game. At this point, you just rely on that."

Bucks' Michael Redd Shares Faith, Buys Church for Hometown

Milwaukee Bucks' Michael Redd grew up in a devout Christian Columbus, Ohio home where both of his parents were pastors and the people that surrounded him were devoted Christian servants. So when he came to the NBA, he brought that lifestyle with him. Shortly after being drafted in 2000, He even declared to remain celibate until he married his wife, a promise which he kept. In a recent interview with the Washington Post's Kathy Orton, he shared how he kept his faith while away from home.

"Growing up in a household that included parents that were pastors and people that were involved in ministry, that's all I've ever known," Redd told Orton. "It wasn't until I left home that I really developed a personal relationship with Christ. For so long as a teenager and a kid, you piggyback off mom and dad. They're ministering, they're pastoring, so I think I'm automatically getting a pass to heaven. And that wasn't the case at all, I found out. I had to develop my own personal relationship with Christ and begin to communicate with Him on a deeper level pretty much when I left home to go to the NBA."

Redd shares his faith at ROCC Fest

FREDERICKTOWN ? NBA star Michael Redd was the featured speaker at this year?s ROCC Fest in Fredericktown. A large crowd filled with young people listened as Redd shared his faith and insight grown during his years playing basketball for the OSU Buckeyes and the Milwaukee Bucks.

?I believe God wants to use this generation,? he told the youths. ?God wants to use you, and he has a plan for all of our lives.?

Redd, who said he was raised in a Christian home, the son of a pastor, told the youths he had grown up ?going through the motions.?

He described the formality of going to church, but said he ?still didn?t know who Jesus was on a personal level.?

?When I turned 17, I made up my mind that I wanted to serve God and dedicate my life to Him. He changed my life,? he said.

Redd has donated time and resources to working with young people. He began giving motivational speeches to youths about five years ago, and the young people in the crowds on Saturday were eager to meet with him before and after he spoke

There's a lot of talk about acquiring Michael Redd from the Milwaukee Bucks, and it might be realistic.

The Bucks have a new GM and a new coach, and there seems to be a strong feeling from Milwaukee that Redd will be traded. A rebuilding team does not want $50 million in future contracts gumming up the works.

Redd, a career 20-point scorer, averaged 22.7 points per game last season, his lowest since 2002-03. He and LeBron James have played together on Team USA, and his scoring could be energized playing on the same team as James.

A lineup that includes Delonte West and Redd at guard is pretty appealing.

Redd will make $15.8 million, $17 million and $18.3 million (player option) the next three seasons. The Cavs have Szczerbiak's $13 million and Damon Jones' $4.5 million in expiring contracts to work with.

Redd ready, waiting for fate to unfold
Guard knows renovation may mean his relocation
By CHARLES F. GARDNER

Michael Redd is not preoccupied with all the Internet chatter that would send him packing out of Milwaukee - tomorrow, if not sooner.

Yet the Milwaukee Bucks' star was gratified that new coach Scott Skiles took the time to visit him last month in Redd's hometown of Columbus, Ohio. And Redd was pleased to receive a call from new general manager John Hammond at about the same time.

Why?

Because the big question of the summer is this: Will the Bucks deal Redd in a bid to overhaul their roster or will they keep their veteran shooting guard and try to make moves to improve the supporting cast?

"They called me and said they had not initiated talks about a trade, and not to pay attention to what was being said," Redd said. "Out of respect, they wanted to tell me to ignore those rumors.

Redd has three years and $51 million remaining on his contract, a hefty sum. But he is one of the top scorers in the league, ranking eighth last season with a 22.7-point average. So it's likely that Hammond will hear Redd's name frequently when the Bucks' general manager is discussing potential deals.

Since Redd signed his six-year, $91 million deal in the summer of 2005

Redd is ready to reprise that designated shooter role as the U.S. attempts to win gold in Beijing after finishing third in Athens in 2004, when Argentina emerged as the gold-medal winner.

"It was an honor," Redd said of wearing the U.S. uniform last summer while playing an important backup role to Bryant in the FIBA Americas tournament. "It's easy to shoot wide-open shots when you don't see double-teams every night.

"They've got some hard decisions to make (on the roster). I just hope I'm a part of the plan. To be part of this team would be pretty special. Our mentality is to win the gold medal and play the right way."

Redd's gone if price right

Michael Hunt

If pressed to choose an all-good-guy local team from recent times, Michael Redd might head a roster that would include, among others, Ray Allen, Craig Counsell, Michael Curry, Mark Pope, Scott Williams, Jim McIlvaine, Charlie Bell and Bill Hall, even if the last two have managed to draw our fandom's ire.

Redd is such a righteous guy that I might even support his nomination for membership into the Hank Raymonds-Dick Bennett-Pat Richter Club for all-around decency.

But the problem is, even in a character-driven city like Milwaukee, good character doesn't always win games. Bad character can destroy a team, as was the case when the Bucks dumped Williams to sign Anthony Mason, but here's the bottom line since Redd became the face of the team upon the breakup of the Big Three:

I think one of the things missing from the US team was the ability to shoot teams out of the zone they would play against our "slashers". Redd gives them that possibility, and a legit threat to take it to the hole himself! Awesome news to the newest buckeye olympian!!
