Up Close With Michael Redd
By: Ryan McNeill Last Updated: 1/26/08
Most basketball fans know about Michael Redd as an All-Star caliber basketball player but few fans realize the kind of man he is away from the media spotlight. He's the kind of person who donates money to his father's church back homes, genuinely cares about his community and leads the Bucks bible study before practice. In an era where fans lose faith in athletes Michael Redd provides fans with a role model they can look up to and inspire to be like.
Redd recently sat down to talk with HOOPSWORLD about why he donated a large sum of money to his father's church, how his faith helps him as a basketball player and how the Bucks are hoping to make some noise in the playoffs this season.

St. Francis - It was nearly a full house at practice today for the Bucks, and it was a welcome sight for coach Larry Krystkowiak.
Bucks guard Michael Redd returned and pronounced himself ready to go against the New York Knicks on Saturday night. Forward Yi Jianlian, after missing two games with a right shoulder strain, took part in practice and said he was ready to play against the Knicks. Center Andrew Bogut, who hurt his hip on Tuesday night in Memphis but played the following night in Dallas, sat out practice but said he would play Saturday.
Forward Bobby Simmons also practiced after missing the Dallas game with a lower left leg bruise.
Redd has missed the last six games after suffering a left knee strain in the Bucks' game at Toronto on Jan. 25. He worked to strengthen the knee while the Bucks were on the road this week.
"I had a good day of practice today and went hard," Redd said. "I just wanted to test it and see how it felt, and it felt good. I'm excited about playing tomorrow, man."
Redd said he has made a lot of progress in the past few days.
"My trainer and I got together (on Wednesday)," said Redd, who worked out despite the huge snowstorm that hit the Milwaukee area. "He's right down the street from me. I got with him, and we pushed it and just wanted to get stronger."
Redd stayed late and worked on his shooting, at one point hitting 12 in a row from beyond the three-point line in the left corner.
"You've got to keep shooting," he said. "That's why you put the work in after practice and try to get better. It will come back to you."

Q: What happened to Ohio State last weekend?
A: It's a rebuilding year for Ohio State. Wisconsin's good. They're really good. It was a great game, and Wisconsin pulled it out at the end. You can't go to the finals every year, I guess. We'll figure it out next year.
