SG Jon Diebler (2nd-Most Big Ten career 3-Pointers, Butler Recruiting Director)

the question I have is how spots does the '07 class have? with lauderdale, koufos, and likely diebler coming aboard is osu looking to take a 4th and call it a day? if so, what position pg or sf?

Most likely 4 spots barring any unforseen circumstances......Matta considers Diebler as a guard, so that would give us..........Koufos (PF)....Lauderdale (C/PF).......Diebler (SG).....and then one more prospect at the shooting guard....in my opinion.

Without knowing too many of the available '07 prospects interested in us, I would really love to see Dante get his offer. He seems like he could be a great player after a few years on the team.

Anyways, though, to keep this thread on track, the news today is without a doubt fabulous, Matta is sure as hell keeping his promise so far, his gate around Ohio is pretty high right now!!

Can you imagine?

2006: Cook, Conley, Lighty, Oden, Chichester, (Hunter or Brown?)
2007: Lauderdale, Koufos, Diebler, with others possibly being Alibi, Pope, Love, Sanders, Gordon, Jackson or Hummel
2008: Mullens, with others possibly being Gates, Goins, Roe, Buford or Frease

Wow...

SG most likely, but you also take Herb Pope in a heartbeat if he wants to come to Columbus...

I think he is quicker and will be able to play better defense and JJ may have a lil better shot.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

I think you can compare him to JJ when only talking about shooting. Like you said he is much quicker and a better defender then JJ. Upper Sandusky ran a full court trap the whole game every game last year. Jon defended the inbounds pass and then was the trap man all the way down the court. I feel the only type of people who can do this and be successful at it are ones who want to D it up and are very quick with their hands and feet.

Jon's height also makes him a totally different player then JJ. Jon goes about 6'7 and Reddick is 6'4. Jon uses his height to his advantage. He can post up smaller players who try to guard him on the wing, JJ doesn't have that advantage. Although he does not go inside a lot, he does have good post moves when he does. (I think he will show more post moves this year with the loss of their center from last year). Jon is also quick to hole and finishes in the lane. Not too many of his shots are altered/blocked in the lane because of his height.

smitty03...nice insight....

I will add that Matta and staff consider Diebler right up there with the top wing players in the 2007 class. Diebler can and will play defense, he did an admirable job on Cook last year at State. Diebler is streaky shooter, but that is due to the fact he is so young, younger players lack consistency a lot of times.

He has a ton of potential but is no way a finished product. I have personally watched Diebler play in person and he will be a great player down the road.

:oh: :io:

Nice post Smitty, thanks for all the insight. I love players like him that just know how to play bball. It isnt all about the jukes and the dunks.

He wills himself to play very hard on both ends of the court and it sounds like he really understands the game of bball. Also he has a shot to go along with that.

Man, we're dead in the middle of football season but these basketball developments have me dying to see the hoops teams of the future. Diebler would be a great addition to the Bucks. Does he remind anyone else of a taller Jay Burson?
