Figured it was about time we start tracking Buford's ascension up the OSU all time scoring leaders chart.

1. Dennis Hopson - 2096
2. Herb Williams - 2011
3. Jerry Lucas - 1990
4. Kelvin Ransey - 1934
5. Michael Redd - 1879
6. Jim Jackson - 1785
7. Jay Burson - 1756
8. Dave Sorenson - 1622
9. Perry Carter -1613
10. Robin Freeman - 1597
11. Allan Hornyak - 1572
12. Terence Dials - 1566
13. William Buford - 1550
14. Jon Diebler - 1536

546 behind Hopson
24 regular season games left
1-3 Big Ten Tourney games
1-6 NCAA Tourney games

If the Bucks plays the minimum, Buford will need to average 21 over those games to catch Hopson. If they play the maximum, he'll need to average 16.6. He's currently averaging 17.7. It's going to be close.

William Buford: Time well-spent
Like other Toledo prep stars before him, William Buford has grown and matured by staying and playing at Ohio State
By Bob Baptist
The Columbus Dispatch Friday December 9, 2011

The comparisons started before the kid had taken his first class as a freshman at Libbey High School in Toledo.

?In eighth grade, I?d heard about him. Because of the comparisons, any guy that comes up, I hear about,? Jim Jackson said.

?But I love to hear (about) young talent in the city, and how they continue to progress.?

William Buford had heard of Jim Jackson, of course. And Dennis Hopson. Probably Kelvin Ransey, too. All were products of his hometown who became basketball stars at Ohio State and played in the NBA.

Most of what he heard about the Buckeyes in his hometown, though, was about the other sport.

?Ohio State was always a big football school,? he said. ?Not really too much of a basketball school.

?But for me, personally, I just wanted to stay home and try to bring up the basketball program. I wanted to be part of something good. I knew they already had good players. I just wanted to be (close to) home and try to bring a buzz to the city.?
