http://www.cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2014/02/lenzelle_smith_ohio_state_obse.html#incart_riverSam Thompson’s threes weren’t in Northwestern’s scouting report. A reporter asked Thompson after the game how he was able to make three of four of his shots from beyond the arc, and the junior hard an interesting response.
“If I didn’t know better I’d think you guys think I can’t shoot,” Thompson said.
Well, it hasn’t been his strong suit all year. But against the Wildcats, Thompson came off screens and was ready to shoot confidently, and in the end he had 11 points.
“We were playing well offensively, but where we lost is what we lacked on defense,” Northwestern’s Drew Crawford said. “We weren’t getting stops … (Thompson) is one of those guys who can knock down shots when he gets hot. He knocked down his first one and he started to get streaky, so we had to change our game plan on him.”
Change the game plan to defend Thompson? Combine that with what Smith and Ross, who scored a team-high 16 had, and its no mystery why the Buckeyes had their easiest win of the Big Ten schedule. It’s not fair to ask Thompson to make 3-of-4 threes every game because he hasn’t done that all year, but this is what it looks like when Ohio State doesn’t struggle shooting.
Best almost dunk since Oden in the NCAA's
it will be nice if he puts up those types of numbers in some games next season because they will be needed. I do not expect the same number of points but he needs to really work on his rebounding. Can't believe no one posted on Sammy's banner day in the Tourney. Sam finished with 18 against Dayton. Had 4 rebounds and went 8 for 11 from 2 & 2 for 3 from deep.
