Kevin Everett sustained what the team called a cervical spine injury when he ducked his head while driving in to tackle Denver's Domenik Hixon.

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) -- Bills reserve tight end Kevin Everett will spend one to two days under sedation as doctors evaluate the extent of a severe spinal injury that could leave him paralyzed.
Everett is in the intensive care unit at Buffalo's Millard Fillmore Gates Hospital after a four-hour operation performed hours after he was hurt in a season-opening loss to Denver, Eric Armstead, a partner of the player's agent Brian Overstreet, told The Associated Press on Monday.
"He'll be sedated for the next 24 to 48 hours and we won't know more until then," Armstead said. "We were told by the doctors that the surgery went well."

I thought for sure last night when M. Barber III dove into the endzone, he was gonna land on his head!!! Even when they showed it in slow motion, I still didnt see how he was able to spin sideways at the end. Hope this dude is okay!!

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) - The Buffalo Bills' Kevin Everett sustained a "catastrophic" and life-threatening spinal-cord injury and his chances of regaining a full range of body motion are very small, an orthopedic surgeon said Monday.

"A best-case scenario is full recovery, but not likely," Dr. Andrew Cappuccino said, one day after performing a four-hour operation on the player. "I believe there will be some permanent neurological paralysis. ... A full neurological recovery was bleak, dismal."

Very very sad. My prayers to him and his family.

According to a report from Buffalo TV station WIVB-TV, injured Bills tight end Kevin Everett has voluntary movement of his arms and legs.

WIVB medical reporter Dr. Peter Ostrow says the voluntary movement shows dramatic improvement over the prognosis Everett was given Monday, when orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Cappuccino called Everett's spinal-cord injury suffered in Sunday's game against the Denver Broncos "catastrophic" and life-threatening.

At the time, Cappuccino said Everett's chances of regaining a full range of body motion were not very likely. But according to the WIVB report, Cappuccino is much more optimistic Tuesday evening.

Great News! Keep Praying!

The doctor who performed the spinal surgery on Everett told Buffalo TV station WIVB on Tuesday that Everett has voluntary movement of his arms and legs and as a result he is optimistic that Everett will walk again.

Dr. Andrew Cappuccino told WIVB that Everett's sedation levels were lowered on Tuesday, allowing him to respond to verbal commands. WIVB also reported that Everett's latest MRI shows only a small amount of swelling on his spinal cord.

what an idiotic doctorb. This is why you don't give prognosis reports through the media. The media is too stupid to understand that these things change on a hour by hour basis.

Maybe not the most eloquent way to make a point, but a point well taken. Just saw on ESPN that the "doctorb" is "optimistic" that Kevin will walk out of the hospital. This story has made me sick for the past 3 days. What great news to hear. Sports really doesn't mean shit. I'd trade in 10 Buckeye losses in a row and the Indians to not win another game this year if this kid could get up and walk again. Let's hope the most recent developments are accurate.

That's wonderful...much better than what was being said on Sunday. I heard an interview w/ some of the Bills players on Monday reflecting upon what happened. They sounded understandably shell-shocked.

I feel sorry for him and his family - I really do.

That said, he was PRETTY DAMN STUPID to do something (putting his head down) that they tell you NOT TO DO even at the lowest levels of pee wee football.
