SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

Texas, Oklahoma expected to declare intent to leave Big 12 in '24-48 hours' with SEC as landing spot

Texas and Oklahoma are expected to declare their intention to leave the Big 12 in as soon as "24-48 hours," a prominent Big 12 source told CBS Sports on Friday. The Longhorns and Sooners are set to inform the Big 12 on Monday that they will not be renewing their grant of rights agreement with the conference, Horns247's Chip Brown reports.

"I'm not saying it's 100%, but it's close to it in terms of being a done deal," a Big 12 source intimately involved in the process told CBS Sports.

"It could be as soon as 24-48 hours and as long as two weeks before we have any clarity in terms of timing," said the source in reference to when Texas and Oklahoma would expect to formally join the SEC.

If the programs were to effort an SEC debut in 2022, each could owe up to $80 million to the Big 12 as a penalty for leaving before the current TV rights contract expires after the 2024-25 season. That total equals the combined revenue distribution per school of the last two years.

The source who spoke with CBS Sports under the condition of anonymity said the conference was not surprised at Texas' secrecy; however, it was disappointed in Oklahoma.

"As you can imagine, this stung," the source said. "... [Commissioner Bob Bowlsby] feels absolutely betrayed."

Multiple outlets reported Friday that Texas and Oklahoma had been in talks with the SEC for months prior to Wednesday's revelation.

What do you think the penalty will be in the SEC for doing a "horns down"?

At what point does the SC, UK, Arky, etc begin to worry about contraction? The SEC would likely pull the $$ without those schools/markets and would each get a greater share.

those dumb hillbillies would be too busy chanting “S-E-C” to ever see the eviction notice coming.

Wonder if UT (Tejas) believes they'll shine as brightly as they have in the B12? Just look at Nebraska if you will. They were upper tier, and now struggle to be a middle tier B10 team. Oklahoma might be OK, as the SEC West is a tad easier than SEC East. However, am doubtful that the SEC bottom feeders (or ex-B12ers) would vote to allow them in. Could this be a gambit UT and OK are using to 'force' the B10 to admit them? Not entirely certain, but the TV revenue is bigger than SECs, and I'd bet vcash that UT will want to maintain the UT TV channel. I'm betting on this being a gambit to join the B10....Go Bucks!

They (Greg Stankey, UT/OU, and ESPN) been working on this for several months now. Unlike Kevin Warren, Greg Stankey knows what he's doing. It's like in US politics, the Senate leader and/or the House Speaker won't allow a bill that they support to be brought up for a vote unless they already know they have the votes to pass it. Since they have allowed it to go public now, I'm guessing that Greg Stankey already has at least 11 (of the 14) votes necessary to accept UT/OU, etc. I think it is entirely a "SEC (and ESPN) thing". Everybody gets an equal share in the B1G, even if the B1G wanted UT/OU they would never give UT a preferential financial advantage to get them. At least Jim Delaney would never have.
