SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

There’s a point of view that since a team is a member of a conference they should just follow the rules of the conference.

I understand that the first player or two were on their way to LSU before the rule was enacted, but the reaction after the SEC made the rule could have been “Sorry guys, we‘re not allowed to add you to the team now.”

and as of this morning, those players still have not yet been added to the roster.

what fucking part of I don't think ANY of these kids should be eligible and none of this shit should even be happening are you not grasping?
The part where you say this, but then you just defend defend defend defend defend anyways.

What would it look like if you, hypothetically, didn't like the process but once your team started doing it you realized you actually just like winning more than following what you think is right? I'm guessing it would look exactly like what you're doing now.....rationalizing whatever your team is doing.
you're right, it's not the same.
because there was no precedent over the previous several years of it being an accepted practice to go along with what the courts said on the subject like there is here.
Uh, wut? You.....a fan of a team in the SEC....are going to tell me there wasn't precedent of players getting impermissible benefits and it being wink wink nudge nudge OK?

You know what? You're right. LSU is really being railroaded out of nowhere, here. I can't believe a school that has Lane Kiffin and Will Wade as head coaches of the 2 major sports is being treated as if they are a win at all costs, rogue organization. They were told the rules, tried to get around them anyways, and are now shockingly finding it hard to go against the rules.........which they should be allowed to go around because Alabama did it in a different sport a year ago and nobody sued them, even though the whole sports world gave them exactly as much shit as LSU is getting now.

I don’t disagree with your stance on the whole thing except you can’t have just part of the Lane Kiffin experience. You want the good coach, you get the media and you get the army of [redacted]people he’s pissed off in the past allAFTER HOURS WITH LANE ON BOURBON STREET just looking for their shot.
FIFY.

tosh.O kiffin call in show might be brought out of retirement

ok, let me attempt to clear up my personal stance on this.

I think this entire fiasco is a fucking black eye on the sport I love more than any other.
all of it.
I'll be posting a link to our podcast later where I say the same thing.

all of it is bullshit and none of it should be happening.

but anyone who even attempts to argue that this shits hasn't been going on for a while is kidding themselves.

so I'm at the point now where "ok, if this is actually condoned and within the rules, then we may as well do it too."

we pay Lane Kiffin a lot of money to field the best team he can within the rules.
and the NCAA and the SEC has shown precedence that they will just allow whatever the most recent court order was to be the rule that's followed.

and that's what LSU did here.
they followed the most recent court ruling.

my opinion on that court ruling isn't relevant.
it's the rule.
if that's the rule, that's the rule. whether I like the rule or not.

now, yeah I am pissed off that LSU is now the team being singled out.
LSU is the "bad guy"
LSU is the one being sued by their own conference.
LSU is the one getting absolutely hammered in the national media.
LSU is the fucking anti-christ while other teams doing the exact same thing are ignored.

it's like y'all felt about the tattoo bullshit that went down at tOSU back in the day.
no fucking way all of these college kids everywhere in America could afford thousand of dollars worth of tattoos on their own.
we all know it was happening everywhere.
but tOSU was used as the "example" and y'all got slammed for it.

that was bullshit.
you know it, I know it.

same here.

is it wrong?
in my opinion, yes.

according to the precedent already set in motion over the last couple years by the NCAA and the SEC? apparently not.

until they now decided to dig their heels in the sand and take a stand against LSU.

so yeah, I'm bitter that WE have to be the team that gets drug through the mud for it.
there are plenty of other schools that could just have easily have taken our spot in this center of this mess.
Hell the fucking Commissioner of the SEC admitted under oath, that he doesn't even know what the NCAA "5 for 5" rule even states. He can't define what a "pro" or an "amateur" is. He refused to answer whether or not Vanderbilt would be penalized if they played a guy involved in this lawsuit. He doesn't know any individual player's specific situation is, but he knows LSU is wrong and is going to sue them over it.

so honestly, I don't even know if the relationship between LSU and the SEC can even be repaired at this point.
so now, my school may be out of a conference over doing the exact same shit that the exact same conference has said was cool to do before we did it.

where the fuck are we going to go next?
Independant? with the massive media market that is Baton Rouge, Louisiana? might as well just go ahead and file bankruptcy now
the B1G? we're not an AAU school , so that issue is dead before it even gets presented.
the Big XII? they'd slit their wrists to land us. but damn that a massive pay cut.
the ACC? might be worse than Big XII.

all because we did the exact same shit that other schools have been doing for a couple years now without any kickback from above.
So why the fuck is LSU willing to die on this hill ?

So the AD and administration are just sitting back letting Lane make these decisions that could cost them (see list above) ?

They could have just played along and not entertained these players. Y'all put ourselves here in this situation that could have incredible consequences to make your team marginally better. That's bold strategy .....

The part where you say this, but then you just defend defend defend defend defend anyways.

I don't like the transfer rules either, but I'm not going to say I think LSU should never go after transfer players because I don't like the fucking rule.

no fucking way!
I want the team I root for to win?

the horrors!

Uh, wut? You.....a fan of a team in the SEC....are going to tell me there wasn't precedent of players getting impermissible benefits and it being wink wink nudge nudge OK?

this isn't wink wink nudge nudge behind closed doors.

this is straight up out in the open publicly accepting (even begrudgingly) every previous court ordered injunction on who the fuck is or isn't eligible prior to this one.
every
single
one

hell, even in this particular case.
guys that actively participated in mini camps and tryouts are "ok, fine, whatever. we don't like it, but it is what it is. the courts say they can play, let them play."
LSU has a guy that has literally never once stepped foot on any NFL practice field, mini camp, tryout, practice, preseason game, etc.
And is being fucking sued over wanting to sign him.

They were told the rules, tried to get around them anyways, and are now shockingly finding it hard to go against the rules.........which they should be allowed to go around because Alabama did it in a different sport a year ago and nobody sued them, even though the whole sports world gave them exactly as much shit as LSU is getting now.
what rule did they "try to go around"?

sign players that courts said were eligible even though the NCAA initially said they weren't?

and there is a pretty fucking big difference between "giving them as much shit" and "we're now actively suing you, threatening to suspend your coach for the season, and taking aways 50% of the revenue you generate"

I fully expect LSU take a massive load of shit over this publicly.
If it was another school, I'd be right there giving them shit as well.

but even when Alabama was doing it, I never once thought "holy shit! they need to be sued! Their team needs to be fined for half of whatever money they made! We need to look into the possibility of kicking them out of the league! Why the hell isn't the SEC appealing that court ruling?"

that thought never even crossed my mind. ever.

instead my opinion was "well, that's bullshit. but the courts say it isn't, so whatever."
and I proceeded to give Bama fans shit about it, complained that this is unfortunately where we are in college sports now, etc.

Now LSU is doing it.
I still don't like it.
I complained about it on the podcast. I complained about it here. I complained about it on other sites.

but our "punishment" for it should be exactly the same as everyone else's was.
eat a plate full of shit in the public eye until whatever the next big story is that comes along and takes over the national attention.

And we would deserve that plate of shit.
Just like everyone else doing it deserves their plate.

as of this morning, neither of these kids have ever been listed on LSU's roster.
I honestly don't know if either of them are even enrolled at LSU yet (I would assume they are, but don't know for a fact that they are).

this is all because we MIGHT sign and play them if they are ruled eligible to play.
because we pursued two guys out of a 44 person class action suit (one of many similar suits involving hundreds of players across the country) looking for an extra year.

I genuinely do want an answer to that question. Would what you're doing look any different if you were just pretending to be against letting players who tried to get drafted and ended up on a pro team for any amount of time?
I'm not sure what your beef with me is all of a sudden.

I stand by exactly what I said.
I don't think any player that ever participated in any form of his professional sport should be eligible.

that's my opinion on their eligibility. and I haven't wavered on that.

but my opinion on who should or shouldn't be eligible doesn't fucking matter in the real world because I don't get to make the rules.
but if they ARE eligible, then yes I do expect my team to go after them if they feel they will make the team better.

just like I don't like the transfer rules either.
but I'd be lying through my teeth if I even attempted to say LSU should have avoided Joe Burrow because I don't like the transfer rule.
Burrow actually is a bad example because he was a graduate transfer and not like the current portal bullshit going on everywhere.

Good question. That was also bullshit. At least you admit it.
Also why hasn’t the SEC done anything about this situation either?

BN27 is just angry because Ryan Day hired Arthur Smith as our OC. He's like the lion with a thorn stuck in his paw.

But I do agree with what he's putting out there ....
