SEC (It just means more.. even its losses are wins)

again, to be clear on my stance on this shitshow.

I don't think any of these guys SHOULD be eligible.
but if they ARE eligible, then schools should be able to go after them.

and my biggest gripe is that the SEC has previously had no problems with any other schools signing any other players that have signed contracts for pro leagues, participated in pro leagues, etc. before coming back.

but as soon as LSU does it ... this is their response.
I get it. It's all such bullshit these days. I'm sorry it's LSU in the crosshairs. A night game in Death Valley is on my bucket list. Good luck with however it plays out.

I did pick Clemson in the Upset Contest so I guess your "good luck" can start in week 2. :jt:

Right. The world is out to get LSU. All LSU is doing is just sitting there singing bible hymns.

I'm not. They hired Lane Kiffin. They asked for this and put themselves in the crosshairs. Dumb hill to die on for the further degradation of the sport. Others doing unsavory shit doesn't absolve them of criticism

doing the same exact thing everyone else was already doing with the SEC’s blessing (even if an indirect blessing by not trying to stop it previously).

i’m not even attempting to say that LSU is some moral beacon or “singing Bible hymns”.

i’m saying they looked around at what was previously allowed to happen and said “fuck it! we’ll do that too”

the list of other people who were allowed to play after getting the courts to rule in their favor is getting pretty fucking long now. that list includes guys that played their sports professionally before coming back.

and none of those led to lawsuits against a school that specifically calls out their President, their AD, and their coach as part of the lawsuit.

not fucking one.

if the NCAA had any sort of backbone and actual authority, this would have been definitively handled and answered long before today.
None of these guys would be eligible.
None would have been signed.
And we’d be talking about actual football this week instead of a court case.

oh please enlighten me then.

because here is what happened.

44 (former) NCAA athletes filed a suit against the NCCA for their fifth year of eligibility.
only 2 of those 44 are connected to LSU football in any way.

so at the end of the day, the SEC is going after LSU for recruiting and trying to sign two guys that have been paid a combined total of $50k by the NFL.
two guys that were technically speaking eligible for LSU to pursue.
two guys that LSU is not even putting on their roster until a final ruling is issued.

that’s what this is.
players that the court said was eligible, so LSU went after them.

Players signing a contract and getting paid to play basketball overseas? no problem, eligible to play in SEC.

Players signing a contract and spending multiple years in the NBA g-league? no problem, eligible to play in the SEC (until his NCAA eligibility was overturned).

Players trying out for an NFL team but getting cut? no problem, eligible to play in the SEC.

Players signing a non-guaranteed contract, never stepping foot on an NFL practice field, never stepping foot on an NFL field for games, and receiving ZERO money from the NFL?
sue their asses!!!!

do you think that NONE of those other guys were recruited by the SEC schools they came back to play for?
or did they just magically teleport onto campus without and previous contact at all?

and i’ve said before in this thread, i don’t think ANY of these players should be eligible. at all.

but the precedent was already set before LSU went after any of these kids.

but NOW it’s a problem.

and let’s not kid ourselves about the SEC.
their reputation is very well know.

but NOW all of a sudden they are acting sanctimoniously and filing lawsuits over two players that combined have never even played in any preseason games of their professional sport. Let alone multiple seasons in a pro league.

Charles Bediako played 3 SEASONS in the NBA G-League and made over $500k during his career.
No lawsuit by the SEC.
SEC didn’t try to stop Alabama from playing him (until NCAA rules him ineligible).
SEC allowed him to participate in 5 games for Alabama.

LSU gets commitments from two guys that never even made it into a fucking preseason game. combined to make a whopping $50k.
and until this gets cleared, hasn’t even been added to the official roster yet.

Lawsuit!

Texas has a guy that actually participated in NFL mini camps for two teams.
no problem.
LSU has a guy that never participated in shit (injury prevented him from taking part), never got paid anything at all.
oh no, no, no!!!! can’t have him. he signed a piece of paper (same exact type of paper that was apparently cool for Bediako to sign).
Objectively, you make good points. It's just a little hard to muster up much sympathy when it just seems to me that all that's happening is that Lane's trolling has caused some fish to bite. Might as well just embrace it and roll with being a heel program for a bit.

oh i have no doubt Lane Kiffin being involved is a huge component of all this.

and yep, we’re the bad guys now.
might as well embrace it.
it worked for Tha U for a while before it collapsed. Should at the very least be entertaining for the time being.
