Seattle Seahawks (official thread)

Colin Kaepernick reached out to Seahawks, Pete Carroll about NFL opportunity

Will Colin Kaepernick make a return to the NFL?

At least one head coach believes he will.

On Wednesday, Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that he spoke with Kaepernick, who told the Super Bowl-winning head coach that he is interested in playing quarterback in the league once again.

Carroll said that Kaepernick may or may not get that opportunity in Seattle.

"I don’t know if it’s here. I don’t know where it is. I don’t know if it’s even in football. I don’t know," Carroll said. "People get a second opportunity in their lifetime ... and they can make the most of it if they’re ready for it. I don’t mean to send out any mixed messages about that. But I wanted you to understand that that’s how serious this is. It’s second chance time."

During the offseason news conference, Carroll spoke about players getting second chances in the NFL. And he felt the need to mention that he had recent contact with Kaepernick, who led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance back in 2012.

Kaepernick hasn’t played in the NFL since 2016.

Kaepernick recently posted on social media saying that he was looking for wide receivers to throw with. Seahawks wideout Tyler Lockett responded and ended up meeting up with him and caught passes from the former NFL QB earlier in the week.

"He contacted me the other day and said, ‘Hey, I’d like to get a shot. I’m working out,’" Carroll said. "And so he sent me some video and next thing I know he’s working out with with Tyler Lockett. I don’t know how that happened."

WARREN MOONI DOUBT KAEPERNICK GETS 2ND NFL CHANCE... Owners Don't Want Him

Despite Colin Kaepernick's recent workouts, the chances of the QB getting signed are slim to none ... so says Warren Moon, who tells TMZ Sports he doubts NFL owners will give the ex-49ers star another shot.

"I just don't know if he's going to get that opportunity," the Hall of Famer said earlier this week. "I just don't think the NFL wants that subject back into the league."

Kaepernick hasn't played a down in the NFL since the 2016 season ... but he's been itching to get back ever since. And, he's amped up workouts recently with the hopes of finally getting a call this offseason.

"I just don't know if he's going to get that opportunity," the Hall of Famer said earlier this week. "I just don't think the NFL wants that subject back into the league."

Maybe because Kaepernick wasn't that great of a QB in the first place and his type of game doesn't age well. This is likely why the Ravens are terrified to give Lamar a huge extension.

I can’t buy that argument when guys like Mike Glennon (and others) have stuck around the league this long and made heaps of money. Kaepernick might not be a great QB, but he was notably better than a lot of others who have been employed for a while.

I'll say that he's done, as for as the NFL is concerned:

1. Yeah, I agree, he wasn't that good in the first place. Regardless, I don't think any NFL QB can sit out 5 years and be expected to still play up to the current NFL QB standards.

2. His "kneeling during the National Anthem" cost the NFL attendance/ratings/money based on the perception of many that it disrespected our flag. The NFL probably wants to move on from that or (at least) not continually reminding everyone of it with his presence on an NFL team. The NFL is for "social justice"; just not the way Kaepernick was protesting it. With that being said I will say that Kaepernick is probably the one person who is most responsible for what the NFL is dong now to promote "social justice": https://operations.nfl.com/inside-football-ops/social-justice/social-justice/

3. He sued the NFL and got $10M; most defendants in a lawsuit don't readily forgive and forget that.

Wouldnt the USFL be the perfect place for him to try and start a comeback? Just spitballing here but if he shows out that might make some owners get passed the other stuff Like @ScriptOhio mentioned though that $10M lawsuit is a sticking point now Im sure.

DK Metcalf got carted off the field ... because he really needed to use the bathroom

Given that the cart is usually used when a player is dealing with a significant injury, there was speculation over what happened to Metcalf. Would he miss the rest of the season? Are thousands of fantasy teams ruined in an instance?

No. Metcalf just really had to go to the bathroom, according to TV broadcaster Jen Hale.

Metcalf confirmed that report after the game, and offered up a little too much information about why he needed the cart.

Geno Smith's resurgence with the Seahawks is 'exactly as planned'

i

Last week, Smith became the first quarterback since Rich Gannon in 1999 to be selected to his first Pro Bowl in his 10th season or later.

Carroll knows his quarterback is the "real deal." Still, the Seahawks have gotten a Pro Bowl season from Smith for the bargain contract of $3.5 million, plus whatever amount he earns of the additional $3.5 million he has available in incentives (he'd likely get $2.5 million if the Seahawks miss the playoffs and all $3.5 million if they qualify). The bill is about to come due, with Smith's one-year deal set to expire in March.

Conventional wisdom says the two sides will get a deal done, but it might not be that simple. Would Smith sign a deal before free agency for anything that isn't in line with the franchise tag, which is projected at $31.5 million? Would the Seahawks, who still believe in Lock, give Smith that kind of money without knowing that another team would offer him the same? How much value will Smith place on the chance to remain in a system that clearly suits him?

Only one thing is clear right now: Smith has played his way into a massive raise thanks to a resurgent season that perhaps no one else but him saw coming.

"What a thrilling story for the kid," Carroll said. "He just hung in there so tough and outlasted it, and now he's enjoying all the fun of it."

From a 7 year backup to the pro bowl, who would have guessed it?
