Oh, Mili's gonna be happy... :biggrin:

It's very fast! I also like the new drop-down menu.

Searching on "07" works perfectly, in post search or title search.

Still need 3 or more characters to search a user name with partial info, but I'd leave that.

Tested "For Comparison: E Roberson 03 vs. V Young 04."
Found the thread doing these searches:
  • roberson, 03, young, 04
But not these:
  • vs, Rob, rob, rob*
Odd that "03" works, but not "vs." I don't recall if partial keywords worked before.

Searching all open forums found items in the Clips and News subforums, but not in "ESPN's war." Probably intentional?

I don't have booleans enabled for the navbar search window, I'm trying to figure out how to do that now. I just tried 'rob*' in advanced search, and it worked fine. So I just need to figure out what the hidden tag is, and apparently it's not "rb_searchtype". Grr.

Closer though.

--edit--

booleans enabled.

Try 'rob*' again.

Not sure what's up with 'vs'. Hmm.

Still not getting the thread with "Roberson" by searching "rob*" in either the drop-down or in advanced. I get the threads about Rob Shoenhoft and others, though.

Is it possible "vs" is excluded as a search term? "For" didn't work...

You're not getting that thread on 'rob*' because it's such a broad search term, that over 250k posts, it's finding more than 500 results which is where the cap is.

Try:

'rob* AND yo*'

or

'ro* AND 03'

Those work for me.

Not sure what's up with 'for' or 'vs'. My initial guess would be that common words/terms like 'and' might be excluded on the MySQL level because so many returns would choke the server, or bottleneck MySQL, etc. Looking into this now.

Nothing is excluded via vBulletin though.

After playing with it as set up, can honestly say that FULLTEXT down to 2 characters mangles what we had before. I was a little worried about processing time/speed at 2, but it handles it fine.

--edit--

Obviously you don't need the AND, it's sort of redundant, but I wanted to illustrate that some basic logic commands can be used.

I just tried;

'03 AND ro* OR kren*' and got about what I'd expect. Our sample thread, plus stuff talking about Krenzel in 03. Not sure how the syntax works there. Would that be '(03 AND ro*) OR kren*', or '03 AND (ro* OR kren*)'? I just don't know. :)

Advanced search, key words, searching titles only (so the number of returns shouldn't be an issue):

Doesn't bring up the Roberson thread, but I get the "Rob" and "Yo" threads.

I get the Roberson thread and other threads with "03" in them, but no other "Rob" threads, which means it's just keying to the "03."

Advanced search defaults away from boolean (the navbar post search defaults to that now, however). You have to select it in one of the radio buttons. If you're doing that and still not getting the Robertson vs. Young thread, then I'm confused. Par for the course there, though.

Just tried;

'dwa*'

and

'dwa* AND mcgolv*'

in the navbar and it returned as I'd expect. One return for the latter. That same and tons of others for the former.

Still no answers on 'for' and 'vs' though.

--edit--

What I really need to do is make three posts;

1 - grapplefroncks
2 - grapplefroncks and florplewhippers
3 - florplewhippers

Then try various AND and OR search combinations to see how that all works.

Thanks so much for helping test it all out. I think I'm off to bed.

It's not you if you're doing it in thread titles, and not posts. I hadn't recycled the boolean-enabled code for that one yet, just posts until I knew it was working okay.

Just enabled it for thread titles as well though, so now it should be working in both.

May have to reload it once to get the fresh code in there.

You two wanna fuckin' knock it off? :biggrin:

Lol, having fun with it now. The search function is actually functional. As opposed to before, where it was very hit-or-miss. It's been something about basically all forums that I've found lacking for years, and I think Jelsoft may have finally gotten it right. Particularly with the MySQL reconfiguration to go down to 2 chars.
